Penguins beat Flyers 4-2; Talbot returns and scores game-winner (12-May-08)
The Penguins defeat the Flyers 4-2 to take a 2-0 series lead in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Philadelphia, already without defenseman Kimmo Timonen, lost another defenseman, Braydon Coburn, in the opening minutes of the game after he was struck in the face with a puck. Sidney Crosby opened the scoring with a power play goal at 10:48 of the first. Crosby's attempted pass to the front of the net was deflected in by a Flyer. Pittsburgh probably should have been up 2-0 at the end of the first after a puck seemingly appeared to cross the goal line (Photo: http://www.letsgopens.com/scripts/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24622) but was not given after an inconclusive video review.
Jeff Carter tied the game at one with a power play goal at 5:46 of the second. Marian Hossa regained the lead for the Pens with a rebound goal at 5:46. Mike Richards tied it at two with a shorthanded breakaway goal off an ill-advised Evgeni Malkin pass with 24 seconds to go in the second.
Max Talbot scored the game-winner at 8:51 of the third. Talbot, who missed three games with a broken foot, took a nice backhand feed from Gary Roberts who was behind the goal line and one-timed it home. Jordan Staal added an empty-netter with 29 seconds to go in the game.
Pens beat Flyers in Game One 4-2 (10-May-08)
The Penguins open the Eastern Conference Finals with a 4-2 victory over the Flyers in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Petr Sykora opened the scoring with a nice forehand-to-backhand shot which beat Flyers goaltender, Martin Biron, short-side at 6:19 of the first period. Philadelphia got the game's next two goals from Mike Richards. The first was a wraparound which went in off of Marc-Andre Fleury at 8:30 of the first and the second was put in after a scramble out front at 12:50 of the first. Sidney Crosby tied it at two with a nice redirect of a Marian Hossa pass at 14:11 of the first. Evgeni Malkin netted the eventual game-winner on a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot with under seven seconds to go in the opening period. Malkin scored his second of the game short-handed at 4:50 of the second period. Shortly after being checked heavily into the boards behind the Flyers goal, Malkin took a long feed from Sergei Gonchar, skated in alone on Biron and fired a slapshot from 15 feet home.

Penguins close out series with 3-2 overtime win over Rangers (5-May-08)
The Penguins are moving on to the Eastern Conference Finals after defeating the Rangers 3-2 in overtime in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh led 2-0 after two periods on goals from Marian Hossa and Evgeni Malkin and appeared to be cruising to an easy victory. However, New York had different plans and scored twice in the the first three and a half minutes in the third period to tie the game at two. The Pens had a golden chance late in the game when Chris Drury was given a double minor for high-sticking Ryan Malone. (Of course, Rangers fans will point out that Malone should have received the same penalty earlier in the game when he cut Drury's cheek but the referees missed the call.) Pittsburgh failed to convert on the power play which carried over into overtime. Marian Hossa got the game and series-winner at 7:10 of overtime as he one-timed the puck five-hole past Henrik Lundqvist.

Evgeni Malkin was awarded a penalty shot with under two minutes to go in the second after being hauled down on a breakaway but was unable to beat Lundqvist's glove. Brandon Dubinsky scored a power play goal early in the third and Jagr closed out the scoring with an empty-netter with 14 seconds to go.
