Pens, Edzo, and Fleury get first win of the season (18-Oct-2003)
The Penguins rebounded from a two goal deficit to defeat Detroit 4-3 in front of 13,421 at Mellon Arena. The win was the first of the season for Pittsburgh and the first ever for head coach Eddie Olczyk and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
First Period:
Ramzi Abid opened the scoring with a power play goal at 5:34 of the first period. Detroit then scored the game's next three goals. Henrik Zetterberg wristed home a short-hander at 13:52 and Tomas Holmstrom netted a backhander on the power play at 17:59 of the first.
Second Period:
Darren McCarty was left alone out front and made it 3-1 Wings at 8:05. Rico Fata tucked home a pass from Ryan Malone on the doorstep shorthanded at 12:35.
Third Period:
Martin Straka tied the game with a wrist shot a mere 11 seconds into the period. Rico Fata then capped off his three point night by beating Dominik Hasek short-side high at 11:31.
