Penguins and Hurricanes play to 1-1 tie (23-Oct-2003)
The Pens tie Carolina 1-1 in front of an announced crowd of 10,425 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh's lone goal was scored on the power play by Aleksey Morozov with 8.9 seconds to go in the first period. It seemed as though Carolina thought the preceding shot by Mario Lemieux had gone in and stopped playing but the puck bounced off the right post to Morozov who easily scored.
Carolina's lone goal came from ex-Pen Ron Francis on a nice individual effort at 12:24 of the second. After Marc-Andre Fleury attempted an ill-advised clearing attempt up the ice, Francis intercepted the puck, fired an initial shot which was stopped by Josef Melichar. Francis followed up his shot and chipped the puck over Fleury and into the goal.
