Pens tie Isles 4-4; Mario gets career point 1700 (30-Oct-2003)
The Penguins and Islanders skated to a 4-4 tie in a seesaw battle at Mellon Arena in front of an announced crowd of 10,377. New York opened a 2-0 lead with a shorthanded Shawn Bates goal at 8:03 of the first and an Alexei Yashin goal at 17:07. Pittsburgh then got the game's next four goals: Dick Tarnstrom (19:44 - 1st per.), Martin Straka (0:52 - 2nd), Ryan Malone (3:42 - 2nd), and Mike Eastwood (2:10 - 3rd). The Pens were unable to hold the lead though as Jason Blake and Mariusz Czerkawski scored three minutes apart in the middle of the third period. Mario Lemieux assisted on the Pens' first goal of the game giving him 1700 career points. Konstantin Koltsov had his first ever 3 point game.
