Penguins lose to Hurricanes 3-2 - drop third straight game (9-Nov-2002)
The Penguins led 2-1 in the third period but give up two goals and lose 3-2. Jean-Sebastien Aubin got a rare start in net and despite making numerous difficult saves let in two soft goals. Martin Straka and Alexandre Daigle scored for Pittsburgh.

  • ...Martin Straka cashed in with a power play goal at 14:42. Straka picked up a deflected Alexei Kovalev shot which bounced off a Carolina defender and he one-timed it into the net from out front.

Daigle got to a puck out front, chipped the puck in the air, swatted at it and appeared to miss, and the puck fluttered over Kevin Weekes' blocker and in. The play was reviewed to determine whether Daigle hit the puck above the crossbar but it was allowed to stand.

  • Carolina tied the game with a David Tanabe power play goal just under two minutes later. Tanabe took a point-to-point pass from Rod Brind'Amour and ripped a one-time slapshot which Aubin got a piece of with his glove but was unable to keep out of the net.
