Penguins lose to Hurricanes 3-2 - drop third straight game (9-Nov-2002)
The Penguins led 2-1 in the third period but give up two goals and lose 3-2. Jean-Sebastien Aubin got a rare start in net and despite making numerous difficult saves let in two soft goals. Martin Straka and Alexandre Daigle scored for Pittsburgh.

...Martin Straka cashed in with a power play goal at 14:42. Straka picked up a deflected Alexei Kovalev shot which bounced off a Carolina defender and he one-timed it into the net from out front.

Carolina tied it up at one when Kevyn Adams scored at 8:02 of the second. Adams picked up a Dick Tarnstrom turnover at the blue-line, beat Tarnstrom with a nice move and swatted a seemingly stoppable shot which in over Jean-Sebastien Aubin's left pad short-side.

The Hurricanes had 1:53 of 2-man advantage time at 11:56 but were unable to get one by Aubin who made several clutch stops.
Alexandre Daigle gave Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead at 5:10 of the third. Daigle got to a puck out front, chipped the puck in the air, swatted at it and appeared to miss, and the puck fluttered over Kevin Weekes' blocker and in. The play was reviewed to determine whether Daigle hit the puck above the crossbar but it was allowed to stand.

Carolina tied the game with a David Tanabe power play goal just under two minutes later. Tanabe took a point-to-point pass from Rod Brind'Amour and ripped a one-time slapshot which Aubin got a piece of with his glove but was unable to keep out of the net.

Bates Battaglia scored the game-winner at 14:23. Battaglia skated out from behind the goal line and swept a soft shot by Aubin from below the right circle.
