Pittsburgh and Minnesota play a 1-1 tie. (14-Nov-2002)
The Penguins and Wild end up knotted at one in a goaltender's duel between Johan Hedberg (30 saves) and Manny Fernandez (23 saves). Marc Bergevin and ex-Pen Richard Park were the goalscorers.
Lines: Straka-Lemieux-Daigle, Morozov-Hrdina-Kovalev, LaCouture-Primeau-Nieminen and McKenna-Manderville-Jonsson. (Yes, D Hans Jonsson played right wing.)
Defensive pairings: Tarnstrom-Moran, Bergevin-Rozsival and Melichar-Pushor.
Goaltender: Johan Hedberg
Captain: Mario Lemieux
Alternate captains: Alexei Kovalev, Martin Straka.
There was no scoring in the first period. Minnesota had a golden opportunity when Ville Nieminen was sent off for a holding / slashing double minor but they managed only four shots on goal on the advantage and failed to convert.
The Wild had another excellent chance when Wes Walz had a shorthanded breakaway but Johan Hedberg slid out to deny the attempt before a shot was taken.
Jan Hrdina had two chances early in the overtime and then was called for too many men on the ice as he jumped the boards early and the puck hit him. The Wild, obviously, did not score on the ensuing power play.
Overtime penalties: Pit, Bench, (Too many men) 3:22.
Krzysztof Oliwa Memorial Ice-time Award: Hans Jonsson - 0:48 of ice-time.
