Pens lose 3-2 to Carolina (7-Oct-2005)
The Pens again run into a red-hot goaltender but this time end up with a point after losing the game via a shootout to Carolina 3-2.
The Hurricanes were up 2-0 after one period on a flukey goal credited to Eric Staal which actually went in off of Josef Melichar's skate and a Cory Stillman breakaway goal.
Pittsburgh tied the game up with two power play goals in the third period to finally beat rookie netminder, Cam Ward. Ryan Malone scored on the power play at 3:37 after a Carolina clearance attempt bounced off referee Paul Devorski and directly to Malone who beat Ward short-side. Ziggy Palffy then tied it up with 1:24 to go by one-timing a sweet Sidney Crosby one-time centering pass.
After a scoreless overtime, the teams went to a shootout where Cory Stillman scored against Sebastian Caron followed by misses from Mario Lemieux, Ziggy Palffy, and Sidney Crosby to give the Hurricanes the win.
