Penguins tie Lightning 3-3 (19-Oct-2002)
Pittsburgh had three one-goal leads but were unable to hold off Tampa Bay and had to settle for a 3-3 tie. Goalscorers for the Pens were Jan Hrdina in the first period, Dan LaCouture in the second and Alexei Kovalev in the third.
Lines: Morozov-Lemieux-Kovalev, Hrdina-Robitaille-Daigle, LaCouture-Primeau-Nieminen and McKenna-Manderville-Donovan.
Defensive pairings: Laukkanen-Bergevin, Tarnstrom-Moran and Jonsson-Pushor.
Jan Hrdina opened up the scoring with his first of the season at 7:11 of the first period on the power play. Hrdina picked up a rebound of a Mario Lemieux shot and easily knocked it by Tampa Bay goaltender, Nikolai Khabibulin, from the crease.

The Lightning tied the game at one with a Ben Clymer goal at 3:45 of the second. Clymer took a pass from Vaclav Prospal on a 3-on-2 and wristed it home from the top of the slot.

The Pens regained the lead with Dan LaCouture's first goal of the season just over four minutes later. LaCouture picked up a rebound of a Wayne Primeau shot which bounced off the boards behind the net and LaCouture one-timed a backhander by Khabibulin short-side.

Shots after two were 23-18 in favor of Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay tied the game at two early in the third period with a Martin St. Louis goal. St. Louis came in on a 2-on-1 with Brad Richards, took a cross-ice pass and fired it high into the goal.

Alexei Kovalev scored his second of the season to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead at 5:49. Kovalev took a pass from Randy Robitaille, who was behind the net, and one-timed a shot home from the inside of the right circle.
Dan Boyle got the eventual game-tying goal on the power play at 9:05. Boyle had the puck in the right circle on an abbreviated power play, waited and then shot it by Hedberg high short-side.

Both teams had chances including Martin St. Louis early on with a partial breakaway and Kovalev's one-timer attempt with 10 seconds to go but the game ended as a 3-3 tie.
