Penguins win third straight by defeating Devils 4-2 (24-Oct-2006)
The Penguins jump to first place in the Atlantic Division by beating New Jersey 4-2 in front of 13,190 at Mellon Arena. The first period saw the Devils grab a 1-0 lead when Scott Gomez picked up a rebound of a Brion Gionta shot and put it into an open net. Nils Ekman tied it when he skated down the off-wing and wristed it by Martin Brodeur. Pittsburgh got goals from Sidney Crosby (off a nice feed from Evgeni Malkin) and Jordan Staal (off a great pass from Nils Ekman) to make it 3-1 after two periods. Sergei Brylin cut the lead to one with his second of the season at 8:01 of the third. Evgeni Malkin closed out the scoring with a highlight-reel forward-to-backhand move which beat Brodeur. Malkin now has a goal in each of his first four games.
