Pens recall Wallace; send Pesonen down; waive Minard (27-Feb-2009)
The Penguins have recalled forward Tim Wallace from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Also, they have re-assigned Janne Pesonen to WBS and have placed Chris Minard on waivers. Minard will be re-assigned to WBS in the event that he clears waivers.

The Penguins roster has been updated.

Pens trade Whitney to Ducks for Kunitz and Tangradi (26-Feb-2009)
The Penguins have traded Ryan Whitney to Anaheim for Chris Kunitz and Eric Tangradi.

Pens beat Isles 1-0 with late Sykora goal (26-Feb-2009)
The Penguins get a late Petr Sykora goal to defeat the Islanders 1-0 in front of 16,975 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh dominated offensive-zone possession time but were unable to beat Isles' goaltender Yann Denis until Sykora's goal with 2:28 to go in the game. Marc-Andre Fleury made 21 saves for his 3rd shutout of the year.

Pens recall Pesonen; Crosby and Whitney out against Isles (25-Feb-2009)
The Penguins have recalled forward Janne Pesonen from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Sidney Crosby (groin) and Ryan Whitney (family matter) will miss tonight's game against the Islanders.

The Penguins roster has been updated.

Pens split pair of games over weekend (23-Feb-2009)
The Penguins split a pair of games over the weekend to the Flyers and Capitals. On Saturday afternoon, the Pens capitalized on a huge mistake by Flyers goaltender Martin Biron late in the third to grab a 5-4 win in Philadelphia. On Sunday afternoon, the Capitals easily beat the Pens 5-2.

Penguins lose 3-2 in shootout in Bylsma's debut (17-Feb-2009)
The Penguins lose 3-2 in a shootout to the Islanders in new interim head coach, Dan Bylsma's debut. Needing points badly, the Pens got tying goals from Evgeni Malkin and Ryan Whitney but were unable to beat the league's worst team in the shootout. Frans Nielsen and Jeff Tambellini converted their attempts while only Petr Sykora was able to beat Isles goalie, Joey MacDonald.

Therrien fired and replaced with Bylsma (15-Feb-2009)
The Penguins have fired Michel Therrien as head coach and have named Dan Bylsma, head coach of the WBS Penguins, the interim head coach.

Also, assistant coach Andre Savard was reassigned within the organization. Assistant coach Mike Yeo and goaltending coach Gilles Meloche will remain with the coaching staff. Tom Fitzgerald, the Penguins' director of player development, will join the staff as an assistant coach.

Penguins trainwreck third period leads to 6-2 loss to Leafs (14-Feb-2009)
The Pens give up five goals on 15 shots in the third and lose 6-2 to the Maple Leafs 19,365 at Air Canada Centre. Pittsburgh led 2-0 early in the first period on goals from Matt Cooke and Bill Thomas. Toronto took over the game in the second period out-shooting the Penguins 14-5 and cutting the lead to one with a Nik Antropov goal. The less said about the third the better...

Boucher undergoes foot surgery (13-Feb-2009)
Penguins' defenseman Philippe Boucher underwent successful surgery on his left foot and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Penguins beat Sharks 2-1 in shootout (12-Feb-2009)
Sidney Crosby scored the lone goal in the shootout to give the Penguins a 2-1 victory over the Sharks in front of 17,034 at Mellon Arena. Bill Thomas scored his first goal as a Penguin in the second period to give Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead after two periods. On the goal, Jordan Staal notched his 100th career NHL point. The Sharks tied the game in the third with Joe Pavelski's 14th of the season. After a scoreless overtime, Crosby beat Brian Boucher with a quick wrist shot for the win.

Pens come back from 3-0 deficit to win 4-3 in overtime (5-Feb-2009)
The Penguins trailed Tampa Bay 3-0 heading into the third period but rally and pull out a 4-3 overtime victory in front of 16,977 at Mellon Arena. The Lightning opened the scoring with a Ryan Malone goal late in the first period. They then added two more in the second from Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier to go up 3-0. Pittsburgh out-shot Tampa Bay 17-5 in the third and got goals from Evgeni Malkin, Mark Eaton and Petr Sykora. Malkin got the game-winner with 15.5 seconds to go in overtime.

Pens fall 4-2 to Canadiens (4-Feb-2009)
Montreal scores three unanswered goals and defeat the Penguins 4-2 in front of 21,273 at the Bell Centre. Luca Caputi, playing in his first NHL game, scored on his first shift to give the Pens a 1-0 lead. The Canadiens then scored the game's next three goals including a shorthander to head into the third period with a 3-1 lead. Evgeni Malkin scored a power play goal near the midpoint of the third to make it 3-2 but Andrei Kostitsyn scored with 4:15 to go to seal the victory.

Bissonnette sent down; Kennedy suspended; Caputi recalled (3-Feb-2009)
On a busy Monday, the Pens issued the following press releases:

First, they re-assigned forward Paul Bissonnette to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

It was then announced that Tyler Kennedy has been suspended for one game, without pay, for his involvement in an altercation during a stoppage in play during the Toronto Maple Leafs game

Finally, the Penguins recalled forward Luca Caputi from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Pens lose pair of games over weekend (2-Feb-2009)
The Penguins lose pair of games over Super Bowl weekend. On Friday night, the Pens blew a two-goal third period lead and ended up losing 4-3 to the Devils in overtime. On Saturday, the Penguins overcame a two-goal third period deficit only to then lose 5-4 to the Maple Leafs.
