Carolina got a last minute goal from Eric Staal to end the first and then the Hurricanes blew away the Pens with three in the second period. Paul Martin did not play the third period for the Penguins.

The Penguins come back from a three-goal deficit only to lose 6-4 to the Panthers in front of an announced crowd of 17,378 at BB&T Center. Florida chased goalie Tomas Vokoun after he had given up four power play goals and the Pens found themselves down 4-1. Pittsburgh, with Marc-Andre Fleury in net, proceeded to tie the game with three goals in a 9:28 span of the second period. Florida scored twice in the third, including an empty-netter, for the victory.
