Pens beat Islanders 4-0 (31-Mar-2006)
The Penguins shut out the Islanders 4-0 in front of 11,286 at Nassau Coliseum. Pittsburgh scored three times in the second half of the second period and added one in the third for the victory. Sergei Gonchar had two power play goals. Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists. John LeClair scored the other Pens goal. Sebastien Caron stopped all 29 shots he faced and turned aside a Sean Bergenheim penalty shot early in the third period.

Welch sent down to WBS (30-Mar-2006)
Noah Welch has been returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In three games with Pittsburgh, Welch had four points (1g, 3a) and a plus-2 rating.

Pens beaten 5-3 by Panthers (29-Mar-2006)
The Penguins lose 5-3 to the Panthers in front of 14,024 at Mellon Arena. Florida built a 4-0 advantage halfway through the game which chased goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from the goal. John LeClair scored his 400th career goal in the second period. Andy Hilbert and Konstantin Koltsov also scored for Pittsburgh. The win was Florida's 12th in a row against the Pens.

Pens lose 6-5 to Canadiens (26-Mar-2006)
The Penguins lose 6-5 to Montreal in front of 14,807 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh found themselves down 2-0 early and never were able to tie the game up. Colby Armstrong had two goals for the Pens and thought he had his first hat trick but the third "goal" was disallowed since he was judged to have directed it in with his hand. Noah Welch scored his first NHL goal (and also put an Alexei Kovalev centering attempt into his own net). Tomas Surovy and John LeClair scored the other Pittsburgh goals.

Pens down Isles in overtime 4-3 (24-Mar-2006)
The Penguins rebound from a 3-1 deficit early in the second period and beat the Islanders in overtime 4-3 in front of 15,210 at Mellon Arena. Ryan Malone opened the scoring with a highlight-reel shorthanded breakaway goal at 2:20 of the first. The Islanders responded with the game's next three goals and found themselves up 3-1 very early in the second period. Andy Hilbert (PP) and Sergei Gonchar scored in the second to tie the game. After a scoreless third, the game went to overtime where Sidney Crosby sealed the win with a 2-on-1 snapshot goal which beat Rick DiPietro short-side.

Noah Welch made his NHL debut and had an assist, 13:45 of icetime, and a +1 rating but left the game in the third with an unspecified injury.

Welch called up (24-Mar-2006)
The Penguins have recalled D Noah Welch from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Welch, 23, has appeared in all 68 of WBS's games this season, recording 26 points (9+27), 81 penalty minutes and a plus-12 rating. Welch will wear #4.

Pens recall Endicott; Send Nasreddine down (23-Mar-2006)
The Penguins have recalled Shane Endicott from WBS and have sent Alain Nasreddine down to WBS. Endicott is returning from his two-week conditioning stint in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Cairns get three game suspension (23-Mar-2006)
Eric Cairns has been given a three game suspension for the game misconduct he received Tuesday against the Senators. Cairns left the bench at the end of the second period, speared and then fought Zdeno Chara. Cairns will forfeit $9,015.30 which goes into the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Pens beaten 5-2 by Senators (21-Mar-2006)
The Penguins give up four special teams goals and lose 5-2 to Ottawa in front of 19,360 at Scotiabank Place. The Senators scored three power play goals going 3 for 11 and one shorthanded goal. Pittsburgh got a shorthanded goal from Colby Armstrong (6:56 - 1st period) and an even strength goal from Tomas Surovy (8:42 - 3rd).

After the end of the second period, Eric Cairns speared Zdeno Chara and then fought him. Cairns received a 5 minute major for spearing, a 5 minute major for fighting, a 10 minute misconduct and 2 game misconducts for a total of 40 minutes of penalty time. Cairns had 3:35 of ice time.

Pittsburgh finish the season series with an 0-4-0 record against the Senators.

Pens split pair of games over weekend (20-Mar-2006)
The Pens split a pair of games over the weekend to Montreal and Toronto. On Saturday, the team won a seesaw battle 5-4 when sniper Andre Roy collected his second goal of the season. Roy broke in on the Canadien goal, was hooked and saw the puck slide off of his stick and past Montreal goaltender David Aebischer at 3:50 of the third period. Marc-Andre Fleury was the game's number one star and made 42 saves on 46 shots.

On Sunday, the Pens were defeated 1-0 by the Maple Leafs in a game which saw the power go out at Mellon Arena twice during the second period. The second outage caused a small fire but no one was injured. Toronto got the only goal of the game on an iffy penalty shot call which Chad Kilger converted at 13:09 of the third period.

Devils beat Penguins 2-1 (16-Mar-2006)
The Penguins lose 2-1 to the Devils in front of 11,513 at Continental Airlines Arena. Jani Rita opened the scoring at 8:53 of the first with a shot/pass which deflected in off the back of Ken Klee's leg. The Devils' John Madden tied it with a rebound goal at 5:51 of the second and Brian Gionta scored the eventual game-winner on a breakaway at 17:25 of the second. Pittsburgh were outshot 23-14 in the game.

Pens blank Flyers 2-0 (12-Mar-2006)
Pittsburgh get their first shutout of the season as they down the Flyers 2-0 in front of 14,904 at Mellon Arena. Colby Armstrong scored in the first and third periods. Sidney Crosby assisted on both Armstrong goals. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 22 shots he faced for his second career shutout. The Penguins killed of seven minutes of penalty time in the third when Andre Roy was given an instigator, fighting, 10 minute misconduct and game misconduct.

Pens beat Devils 6-3 (11-Mar-2006)
The Penguins score on the first shift of the game on their way to a 6-3 win over New Jersey in front of 16,061 at Mellon Arena. Sidney Crosby scored the first of his two goals 42 seconds into the game and Ryan Malone made it 2-0 at 3:46 as the Pens led 4-1 after one period and 6-2 after two periods.

New Penguin Andy Hilbert had a goal and an assist and was named the game's number two star. Crosby ended the game with 2 goals and an assist. Josef Melichar inherited Mark Recchi's alternate captain role.

Pens recall Nasreddine (11-Mar-2006)
The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Alain Nasreddine from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Pens send Kolanos and Taticek to WBS (10-Mar-2006)
The Penguins have loaned forwards Krystofer Kolanos and Peter Taticek to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Kolanos was part of yesterday's Mark Recchi deal and Taticek was acquired yesterday for Ric Jackman.

Pens send Endicott to WBS (9-Mar-2006)
The Penguins have sent Shane Endicott down to WBS for a two-week conditioning assignment.

According to TSN, the Pens have traded Mark Recchi to Carolina for Niklas Nordgren, Krystofer Kolanos and a second-round pick in 2007.

Pens claim Hilbert (9-Mar-2006)
The Penguins have claimed center Andy Hilbert off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks.

Pens lose 6-3 to Caps (8-Mar-2006)
The Penguins get outshot 42-25 and lose 6-3 to the Capitals in front of an announced crowd of 14,374 at Verizon Center. Pittsburgh had a 1-0 advantage 2:03 into the game when Colby Armstrong took a Sidney Crosby pass and scored his sixth of the year but Washington scored three times in the first period and never looked back. The third Washington goal was a shorthanded dump-in from 160 feet which bounced twice before skittering by Sebastien Caron... John LeClair and Ryan Malone scored the other Pittsburgh goals.

Pens lose 5-4 in shootout to Tampa Bay (7-Mar-2006)
The Penguins overcame a 4-1 third period deficit only to lose 5-4 in a shootout to the Lightning in front of 15,048 at Mellon Arena. The lone goal of the first period came three minutes in on a fluke shot by Dan Boyle which hit the end boards, hopped over the goal and went in off of Marc-Andre Fleury's back. Ryan Malone tipped a Ryan Whitney shot in at 6:02 of the second on the power play. Tampa Bay then scored two goals in 30 seconds a minute and a half after the Malone goal. Dan Boyle's second of the game gave the Lightning a 4-1 lead 21 seconds into the third period. Sidney Crosby, Joe Melichar and Ryan Whitney scored in the third to send the game into overtime and eventually a shootout. Brad Richards and Vinny Prospal beat Fleury in the shootout to win the game.

Orpik suspended for three games (6-Mar-2006)
The NHL has suspended D Brooks Orpik three games for his hit from behind on Carolina's Erik Cole during the third period of Saturday's game. The Hurricanes announced Sunday that Cole has a compression fracture in a vertebra in his neck and is expected to miss at least the rest of the regular season.

Pens send Christensen to WBS (6-Mar-2006)
The Penguins have sent Erik Christensen down to WBS. Christensen was scoreless in two games with Pittsburgh after being recalled on February 28. He has appeared in 33 games with the Penguins so far this season, tallying 13 points (6g, 7a) with 34 penalty minutes and a minus 3 +/- rating.

Pens beaten 7-5 by Hurricanes (4-Mar-2006)
The Penguins give up five first period goals in a 7-5 loss to Carolina in front of 16,293 at Mellon Arena. Mark Recchi netted a hat trick for the Pens. Sebastien Caron started the game gave up two goals on five shots and was replaced by Marc-Andre Fleury who proceeded to give up three goals on four shots and was then replaced by Caron at the start of the second period.

Pens lose 4-3 to Ottawa (1-Mar-2006)
The Penguins return from the Olympic break with a 4-3 loss to Ottawa in front of 14,026 at Mellon Arena. The Senators held a 4-0 lead after two periods but Pittsburgh scored three times in an 8:01 span of the third to set up an exciting finish but ultimately were not able to get the game-tying goal. John LeClair, Andre Roy and Jani Rita scored for the Pens.
