The Penguins barely show up and lose to the woeful Lightning 2-0. Brooks Orpik summed things up nicely post-game, "They've got nothing to play for and they come in and outwork us in our building. It's a little concerning."

The Penguins win a pair of games over the weekend and clinch a playoff berth. On Saturday afternoon, Pittsburgh downed the Flyers 4-1 as Sidney Crosby had three assists. On Sunday, the Pens defeated Toronto 5-4 in a shootout with Crosby netting two goals and converting in the shootout.
Penguins lose 4-3 to Caps in shootout (24-Mar-2010)
The Penguins, playing without Sergei Gonchar (illness) and Evgeni Malkin (foot), lose 4-3 to the Capitals in front of 18,277 at Verizon Center. Pittsburgh held a 2-1 lead after two periods but Washington responded with an Alexander Semin shorthander and a Eric Fehr goal. Jordan Staal ripped a shot from the right-faceoff circle with 3:06 remaining to send it to overtime and an eventual shootout. The Pens had a 2-0 advantage in the shootout but the Caps rebounded and won the shootout 3-2 on conversions by Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin, and Mike Knuble.

The Penguins waste a solid Marc-Andre Fleury performance and lose 3-1 to Detroit in front of 20,066 at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg figured in on all three Detroit goals (2g, 1a). Chris Kunitz scored the long Pittsburgh goal.
Penguins lose late in overtime to Hurricanes (20-Mar-2010)
The Hurricanes get a goal with nine-tenths of a second to go in overtime to defeat the Penguins 3-2 in front of 17,090 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh held a 2-1 lead in the third but Carolina got a goal from Joni Pitkanen with four minutes to go and Jamie McBain scored the game winner with less than a second in OT. Goalscorers for the Pens were Jordan Staal and Evgeni Malkin.
Penguins blank Bruins 3-0 (18-Mar-2010)
Marc-Andre Fleury gets his first shut-out of the season as the Penguins defeat the Bruins 3-0. The pre-game hype was the Boston would get revenge for the Matt Cooke on Marc Savard but other than an early Cooke vs Shawn Thornton fight the game was flat. Pittsburgh scored once in each period (Tyler Kennedy, Alexei Ponikarovsky, and Mike Rupp) while Fleury made 17 saves. Max Talbot, Evgeni Malkin (foot)and Jay McKee were the scratches.
Devils complete series sweep of Penguins (17-Mar-2010)
The Penguins lose 5-2 to the Devils and New Jersey completes the season sweep in front of 17,625 at Prudential Center. Costly defensive turnovers killed throughout the night and Marc-Andre Fleury was pulled after the Devils made it 4-1. Chris Kunitz and Ruslan Fedotenko scored for the Pens.

Penguins lose 4-3 in overtime to Hurricanes (11-Mar-2010)
The Penguins outshoot Carolina 40-21 but lose 4-3 in overtime in front of 16,426 at RBC Center. Pittsburgh held an early 2-0 lead but the Canes scored the game's next three goals. Matt Cooke tied it at three in the second. The overtime was brief as Brian Pothier scored 23 seconds in to give Carolina the win.
Penguins beat Bruins 2-1 (7-Mar-2010)
The Penguins win their fourth straight after beating Boston 2-1 in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh got goals from Pascal Dupuis and Evgeni Malkin after being down 1-0. Scary moment in the third when Matt Cooke hit Marc Savard with a shoulder to the head which knocked Savard out. A suspension will most likely be forthcoming for Cooke.

The Penguins score five unanswered goals and defeat Dallas 6-3 in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh found themselves down 3-1 early in the second but then got the game's next five, including two from Sidney Crosby and one from new Pen, Alexei Ponikarovsky, to put down the Stars.
Penguins defeat Rangers 5-4 in overtime (4-Mar-2010)
The Penguins outshoot the Rangers 55-16 but need an Evgeni Malkin overtime power-play goal to defeat New York 5-4 in front of 18,200 at Madison Square Garden. Pittsburgh found themselves down 4-2 in the second and pulled Marc-Andre Fleury who had given up the four goals on a mere 12 shots. The Pens rallied with a Mike Rupp goal in the second and an Alex Goligoski game-tyer in the third setting up Malkin's overtime winner. Goaltender Brent Johnson played 30:53 and turned aside all four shots he faced.
