Sidney Crosby selected first overall in 2005 NHL Draft (30-Jul-2005)
It will come as no surprise to anyone but the Penguins officially selected Sidney Crosby first overall in the 2005 NHL Draft. Immediately after the selection, Mario Lemieux was interviewed and said he is planning on playing at least two more seasons and also that the Penguins will be very active in the free agent market which opens on Monday. 2005-06 Penguins schedule has been released (27-Jul-2005)
The Pens' 2005-06 schedule, including promotional nights, has been released and can be found at 2005-06 Penguins schedule. The Pens open the season on the road in New Jersey on Oct 5th. The first home game is Saturday, October 8th vs Boston.

Pens select 1st overall!!!! (22-Jul-2005)
The Penguins claim the 1st spot in today's Draft Lottery and will select Sidney Crosby in the 2005 Entry Draft on July 30th! YES! Welcome to Pittsburgh, Sidney!

NHL Board of Governors ratifies new CBA (22-Jul-2005)
The board of governors has ratified the new collective bargaining by a 30-0 vote. The first game of the season will be October 5th. New changes will be a shootout to decide games, smaller goalie equipment, a return to tag-up offsides, the goal will be moved back 2 feet, the redline will be removed and a new logo which can be seen at http://images.ed4.net/images/htdocs/nhl/2005/commissioner_letter/logo.jpg.

NHLPA ratifies new CBA (21-Jul-2005)
The NHL Player's Association has ratified the new collective bargaining agreement with approximately 87% of the players voting yes. The league's board of governors will ratify the CBA tomorrow.

Pens have 6.25% chance of winning 2005 Draft Lottery (14-Jul-2005)
The Penguins will have three balls out of a total of 48 in the upcoming draft lottery giving them a 6.25% chance of picking first overall. The draft lottery is expected to be held on July 21st after the new CBA is ratified with the draft being held in Ottawa on July 30th.

Game (almost) on! (13-Jul-2005)
According to tsn.ca, the NHL and NHLPA have tentatively reached an agreement (pending ratification)! Highlights include a salary cap with a payroll range of $21M - $39M and a 24% salary rollback on any 2005-06 contracts.
