Pittsburgh opened the scoring with a Kris Letang goal off of an Evgeni Malkin feed at 8:12 of the first. Philadelphia got a shorthander from Claude Giroux and a Daniel Carcillo goal to make it 2-1 after two. Giroux got the eventual game-winner on the power play at 10:43 of the third. Tyler Kennedy made it interesting with a late tally but the Pens were unable to tie the game in the final minute.

Pascal Dupuis made it 3-1 which chased Tampa Bay goalie Mike Smith. The Lightning scored the game's remaining four goals as replacement goaltender Mike Smith turned aside all 24 shots he faced.

Penguins lose Consol Energy Center opener 3-2 to Flyers (7-Oct-2010)
The Flyers spoil the opening of the Consol Energy Center by defeating the Penguins 3-2 in front of 18,289 fans. Philadelphia rookie goaltender, Sergei Bobrovsky, was the story of the game as he made 29 saves on 31 shots and blanked the Pens through two periods. Tyler Kennedy got the first Penguins goal in the new arena to make it 2-1 early in the third but Claude Giroux scored a short-hander off a bad Kris Letang turnover for the eventual game-winner at 4:55. Alex Goligoski scored on the same power-play 19 seconds later but the Pens were unable to tie the game.
