Penguins easily beaten 5-2 by Bruins (31-Dec-2008)
The Penguins were easily beaten by the red-hot Boston Bruins 5-2 in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh led 1-0 after the first period on a Petr Sykora goal. Boston then took the game over scoring three times in the second and twice in the third. Pascal Dupuis scored the second Pens goal in the second period. According to the Post-Gazette, the Penguins had a players-only meeting after the game (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08366/938786-61.stm).

The Penguins have re-assigned forward Ryan Stone to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.

Penguins defeat Sabres 4-3 in overtime (23-Dec-2008)
The Penguins get a Sidney Crosby overtime goal and defeat the Sabres 4-3. Pittsburgh trailed 3-2 entering the third period but Alex Goligoski scored his second of the game at 11:17 on the Pens' lone power play to send the game to overtime. Crosby broke a nine-game goal-scoring drought by deflecting an Evgeni Malkin shot by Ryan Miller. The goal was reviewed to determine whether Crosby's stick was below the crossbar and was allowed to stand.

The Penguins get outshot 40-23 and lose 7-3 to the Maple Leafs in front of 17,053 at Mellon Arena. Goalscorers for the Pens were Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora (2). Marc-Andre Fleury did not have a good start in net and was pulled after two periods after giving up five goals on 33 shots.

Whitney sent to WBS for conditioning assignment (19-Dec-2008)
The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Ryan Whitney to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League for a conditioning assignment. Whitney has been targeting Pittsburgh's Dec. 23 match-up with Tampa Bay as a possible return date from an off-season foot surgery.

Penguins defeat Thrashers 6-3 (19-Dec-2008)
The Penguins easily defeat the Thrashers 6-3 in front of 15,124 at Philips Arena. Evgeni Malkin had a four-point (2g, 2a) night in a game that saw Marc-Andre Fleury make his first start in five weeks. Fleury played extremely well and made 28 saves on 31 shots including several acrobatic stops. Pittsburgh scored six times on only 20 shots.

The Penguins cruise to an easy 9-2 victory over the Islanders in front of 16,972 at Mellon Arena. Petr Sykora (finally!) and Pascal Dupuis both notched their first career hat tricks. Miroslav Satan and Evgeni Malkin also scored for the Pens. John Curry got the easy win in net.
