Why no Igloo patch this year?

Postby K2 on Sat Oct 31, 2009 4:45 pm

I saw someone on the street with a jersey bearing one of the "Pittsburgh 250" patches and it got me wondering why they didn't put a patch on the jerseys to commemorate the last year of the Igloo. It seems in general that the Pens are not really acknowledging the whole last year at the Igloo thing which kind of disappoints me.

Thoughts?

I made a pitch about this a few months ago and I was met with a ton of disagreements and people who flat out didn't care. I think they should have worn a patch as well. It's a storied arena and I find it very appropriate.

I'm with you 100%. It's the place I learned to love the game of hockey and wish they'd honor the history during the final year.

Because they're going to be playing in it again next year.

When you say next year, do you mean January thru June of 2010?

I agree they should wear a patch. Everyone talks about nostalgia with Wrigley, Fenway, the Maple Leaf Gardens, etc, the Mellon/Civic has seen some very varied moments throughout it's career and should be acknowledged somehow. Maybe in January 2010, they'll start something. I was expecting not only a patch, but shirts for sale that said "Final Year", a book, maybe DVD, all kind of things marketing usually does. I remember when Three Rivers closed, they did a lot of that.

No I was implying that the new Arena's construction would not be finished in time.

I highly doubt that will be the case. The architects recently announced an expected completion date of August 1, 2010.

They did the same thing with the Maple Leaf Gardens, so why not the Igloo?

They should have a patch with the roof opened showing smoke pouring out (like Spicoli's van), after those 70's Who, Led Zep, Skynard concerts!!
Ahhh...the memories! 8-)

The New York Yankees wore a Yankee Stadium patch last year.

Ticketmaster is the only place I've seen anything to do with the final season ..

Bought a nice coffee mug last season at Pens Station with the Igloo on it & they had a t-shirt
with the Igloo on it as well .. which I didn't purchase because I thought this season they would
have more items to pick from ..

Since that logo has "2010" on it, maybe they'll wear one after New Years.

Perhaps they'll wait until the last game, though when that might be will be unpredictable in the playoffs...
