So... you're not so much a Hawkeynut, more of a Pensnut?

No... I watch every World junior, Olympic hockey game.. if the Pens are out (as they were in seasons past) in time for the World Championships.. I watch. I take a day off work to watch the trade deadline, I watch the draft, I watch the first day of free agency on TSN. I am in 3 fantasy hockey leagues and have an entire room in my house dedicated to the Pens.

I have no time for any other sport, I don't care who is in the World Series or who is battling it out for the Superbowl. When it is hockey season (which in my life is pretty much 12 months a year) I follow nothing else on TV.

But when it comes to the NHL season, I ONLY watch the Pens and ONLY cheer for the Pens. Mind you I did root for the Flames back when the Lightning won the cup. That was a one time thing as I have always had a soft spot for the Flames. If the Pens and Flames met up in the finals, I would be happy either way... more happier for the Pens of course.

So I will kindly defend my name of being a Hawkeynut. Sure I spell it weird, but who cares? :)

I hate Philly fans. They are awful fans and the least gracious about anything good their team does. I would rather hear the excuses come from Philly fans than watch one more sobbing video of a Wings fan any day.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend, so i'll take the wings...

while i agree the wings would probably be my pick, i can't get over the fact at their fans and players feeling their entitled to the cup every year. that really rubs me the wrong way.

Wings hands down. Can you imagine how arrogant Flyers fans would be if the ACTUALLY won something considering their cockiness now after winning nothing in 30+ years.

I rooted for the Wings the last time this happened and would again. I'd root for the Wings to win over the Craps and Rags too.

Wings, without hesitation. I'm still grateful to them for beating Washington and Philly in the finals.

Would have been some hesitation (at minimum) if we were talking about the Wings with Hossa, though.

If I reaaaaaally had to pick, I'd root for the Wings. I don't care if Zett or Datsyuk lift the cup again. But I ever see Mike "Richie" Richards do that, I'll throw up.

it would be hard to swallow, but i'd have to root for the wings. even though i don't like the way they play, they have a trillion times the class of the flyers. there is nothing on this earth i hate more than the flyers, except for maybe discrimination, fascism, and arrogance. but they are a close fourth.

the red wings don't even register on my hate radar until the penguins are actually playing them. the flyers are there all the time.

Where is the board police when you need them?
This topic is not only annoying and not Penguins related, but also moot,
because that SCF will never happen, unless the rules change to promote
goonism.

Wings would instantaneously become my second favorite team. I hate the wings, dont get me wrong but nothing else in this world do I dislike more than the Philadelphia Flyers, their players, owners coaches and fans. I wouldnt even think twice. Not to mention that the flyers drought must live on.

I'm actually kind of surprised by the landslide vote for the Wings. I hate both teams, but I absolutely despise anything and everything that comes out of the city of Detroit. I was a temporary Avs fan for most of the late '90s, as I wanted nothing more than for them to destroy everything Red Wing related. Also one of the reasons Claude Lemieux is still one of my all-time favorites, the NJ Devils years notwithstanding. I rooted for Bondra and the Caps against them in the finals, I couldn't quite bring myself to root for the Eric Lindros Flyers against them, but that Flyers team will always live in infamy in my mind.

As far as today, I would root for this brand of Flyers over the Red Wings in a New York minute. What's to hate about this Flyers team? Hartnell? Why, he is a goon with a perm. Nuff said. Richards? No, he is actually a very good player who is demonized by Pens fans for the attention he gets from the media and fans for his leadership. If this isn't hypocrisy to the tenth degree, I don't know what is. Overall Goonism of the team? Say what you want, they haven't won anything in over 30 years. I'd think this is a hindrance Pens fans would celebrate, not bemoan. The city and fans? Well, you got me there, but visit downtown Detroit and a game at the Joe and see if you can actually spot a real difference in the two groups. We all know Philly is Philly, but It's Cold in the D.

Red Wing hatred isn't a hobby, it's a way of life.

To me this is a lose-lose situation. Red Wings fans are so smug and arrogant that it makes me root against Detroit as much as I root against the Flyers. I never thought I'd hate another team as much as I hate Philly, but Wings fans have pulled that off for me. I never liked Detroit in the first place so this was always a bad matchup for me.

So, if the Penguins were to win another Cup before this matchup happened in the Finals, I think I would actually root for the Flyers. That's totally crazy, I know, but I just kinda hate the Red Wings right now. There are so many factors that would play into my decision on this. Six months from now my answer could change.

Edit:

I still don't see why any Penguin fan would feel the need to "root" for either.
