It’s almost like there was a short camp and no preseason. Weird.

Flyers must have had a longer camp.

Flyers are the best team in the division. And have a better coach. We are handcuffed in some cases.

So a longer camp with preseason wouldn't change those factors, making the short camp and no preseason meaningless. Everyone was in the same boat on those fronts.

It's only 1 game, so I don't want to put too much weight on it, but this is just more of the same from the back half of last season. The Pens look good offensively for stretches, getting zone time and shots, but not converting enough on those stretches. And then they're soft and lackadaisical on defense--losing puck battles, not picking up men, not back-checking, etc. Finally, the opposing goalie is outplaying the Pens' goalie.

If you are giving Sullivan 10 I'd give Rutherford 5. It took one game to realize Matheson and Ceci are trash.

I said before to switch the pairings back. If they stay with these next game then Sullivan is a bigger idiot than I thought.

Actually I wouldn’t be dressing one of 4 or 5. Put Riikola in there for crying out loud.

I wanted him in last year instead of JJ or, at times, Schultz but that didn't happen. Why the hell he re-signed with the Pens is a head scratcher for me.

Having a third line that, at this point, can show up is a strong positive. Crosby still having the hand-eye coordination is another. That's about all the positives I can take from this one. Let's hope for a better game 2.

It's one game, so I won't make a lot of snap judgements off of 1 game, but...

--Jarry hasn't been good. Not much he could do about the 1st two, but after those, some questionable goaltending.
--To all the preseason naysayers (like me), Jankowski is currently on pace for 112 points.
--3rd line was 100% the best line for the Penguins.
--I don't think any of the defensive pairs for the Penguins were very good.
--Down by 2 or 3 goals, I saw the same team I saw against Montreal, and the Islanders before....there's no heart or fire in this team. Oh well, we're down. We'll get em next game or next season. Let's save our energy, and make some quotes about how we are really pissed off and need to be better after the game.
--The Penguins have upgraded their speed, but they still refuse to possess the puck. The back to back Cup teams didn't want the other team to get the puck. Neutral zone clogged, circle back, wait it out, look for an opening. Last few seasons, they play like the puck is a grenade and they'd much rather just get it out of the zone or far away from them that make a controlled play to breakout or retain the puck.

Gimme 6-8 games to take a look and really make some judgements.

I'm with DelPen I'd rather try Ruhwedel than Riikola on his off side. I like Riikola but I'd be playing him over Matheson.

Frederik Andersen last season was beat glove side 34.3% of the time. The highest of the 5 spots. Seeing Jarry get beat there as well as Murray time and again shouldn’t be surprising. It’s where goalies get beat the most and Murray wasn’t close to league worst.

Encouraged by the third line, but this looks like the same crappy team that doesn’t play as a team that we’ve seen in the last two playoffs against the Isles and MTL...no coincidence there as the Flyers played a 2-1-2 trap. Everyone knows, just trap the Pens and they’ll be discombobulated in the D zone if you can get a few turnovers. Same problems, same coach. I hope ownership will stop carrying about the money and just fire him already, but it’s doubtful
