Game 25 vs Kraken - Thoughts from the Morning After

Pens win 6-1

- Guentzel is having a run atm, an epic one. Kasperi is not, cold as the ice he's coasting on.
- DeSmith played decent and made enough saves for the win. Pens D was strong.
- Krakenlooked spooked at the start of the game. Not sure why, they've beaten the best teams recently?
- BEST pk that the Pens have ever had? IDK, time will tell. It impressive & a momentum grabber for sure
- Eberle is a Penguins killer. He could be missing 3 limbs (kraken remember) and still score on the Pens
- Carter is one lucky SOB. The number of bounces he gets is insane.
- Late games are not as easy as they used to be. Lange's Nite Owl membership might have to be returned.

I called it a night at 5-1. When I begin cheering for the opponent to start scoring to make the game interesting, I know it's time for sleep.

Carter gets the lucky breaks because he's in the right place.

Anyone else thinking during Simon's breakaway "Yeah, that's not going in"?

McCann and Tanev didn’t score?

Still need to trade Jake based on a small sample size in playoffs.

Fire all of the coaching staff.

In 1999 out of town coworkers and I went to a pens v Montreal game. My friend from Seattle was hooked seeing Jaromir and all of his Czech friends and Kovy, etc play. Last night he got to see the pens again. :D

4 hits from Tanev and 1 shot from McCann.

Great win- difficult back 2 back coming up. & of course a former islander scores- Eberle.

- Didn't like the way it looked, but DeSmith got the job done. Too much flopping about. Jarry looked like this before, but he's settled down a lot this season. If Casey wants to be a 2nd string goalie, he needs to improve.
- I'm warming up to the idea of keeping ERod with Crosby/Guentzel. The guy is all effort, can shield pucks and dish em to his linemates just fine. If Rust comes back, he can ease back in.

We made it up to Seattle for the game, have to say their arena is a poor design and the atmosphere was not really good. I'm not sure how long hockey will survive up there unless they start winning within a few years. Walking in it almost felt more like heading into a large funeral as opposed to heading into a hockey game. Very quiet crowd, in game entertainment was awkward, just an odd vibe in general.
Vegas has it figured out, the crowd outside is boisterous, the in game entertainment is almost like a rave and the place is a mad house. I've been to a few different arenas and never experienced the lack of energy in a building like there was in Seattle. Lots of Pens fans there though, we were louder than the Kracken crowd.

McCann is a -6 with 16 points so far, ERod is a +6 with 18 points. Heinen and McGinn are both +4s. I feel like simplifying a players worth down to just goals scored is kind of pointless.

The pens have struggled in the post season in recent years and McCann scored a total of 3 points, one assist in each post season. Zero goals.

Tanev had 2 points in 2 post seasons with the pens, a goal last year and an assist the year before.

So when it it was time to score, no, those guys did not. Though, as I alluded to earlier, there is a bit more nuance to a player's worth than just goals.

Personally, I think the style the team plays is ok for a regular season, but a failure for the playoffs. I also think there was something foul about the relationship between McCann and Sullivan, maybe similar to Kessel. Tanev was victim of a bad contract.

Plus minus isn’t the way to go if you’re looking for more support than just goals.

Also my comments regarding Tanev and McCann were sarcastic. I think most caught on to that.

I was reading selectively, but i wasn't speaking directly as a rebuttal. Just a comment on those two players for whomever felt they should still be here.
