More Horrific PK Numbers

Postby Mad City Mike on Tue Mar 07, 2006 2:24 pm

This is since the supposed genius Therrien took over:

Number of games allowing...

0 PP goals: 3
1 PP goal: 8
2 PP goals: 15
3 PP goals: 4

That's right, they have allowed 3 PP goals in a game more often than they have allowed none. That is simply stunning. Where is Randy Hillier when you need him?

Then again, between Therrien and the idiot GM, neither has seen fit to hire a real assistant coach with NHL experience, so why should these results be a surprise?

You know things are horrible when MCM is asking for Randy Hillier back.

I thought things couldn't get any worse, but they have. The PK is way worse than under the clueless Hillier, and unbelievably, they are allowing more goals per game than under Hillier/Edzo. Whatever happened to the supposed system Therrien was going to install???

that is not a surprise. The number of negatives under MT are double what positive impact he has brought.

How about even strength. We have very little time with the puck. Some can be attributed to players, but a lot goes to the head coach. We no sooner get the puck and we take a 35 foot shot, or we dump and seldom chase.

MT great in the "A"
Bad in the bigs.

Wilkes-Barre was the best in the league in PK prior to Therrien moving here, so I'm not sure what to say about that. Of course he didn't have Recchi on his PK unit down there.

In fairness to MT, I doubt he would have any authority
to hire another coach. Therrien probably fought all the way
to have Mike Yeo & other coach brought to Pittsburgh.
Plus I've never heard anyone refer to him as a genius. :P
I don't think it was his defensemen!

I was up in arms when we were losing to Minnesota 5-0.

Now we're losing to Columbus instead.

Not sure which is worse.

Neither of these guys were dealt a pleasing hand. Neither of these guys have seemingly been able to corral these players into doing the same thing night in and night out.

They are -21 at even strength under MT. That simply will not get it done. This team needs a Dave King type to teach them how to play. Or how about Andy Murray, who is rumored to be in trouble in LA?

How about anyone who's had any kind of NHL success that lasted more than a month?

Or is this a case where they really need to fill the second assitant coach job because there is just too much to cover with only 2 coaches. Power play has improved. 5 on 5 is about the same, maybe a little better. PK sucks.

I think that is at least a semi-legitimate point. For all intents and purposes, then Penguins have a two man coaching staff, half the size of many other teams. This team should have double with the amount of teaching that needs done.
