What's everyone think about it?

Postby randy on Mon Jan 30, 2006 11:38 pm

What does everyone think about this arena issue? Is there cause for hope or not?

My thoughts:

Its sickening that this team's fate is going to be determined by the same machine politics that are destroying this area, and I dont see any way around it now. The three stooges want the penguins to talk to them, but what they dont sem to grasp is that why should the ownership continue to lose $ talking, with no outcome certain, when they could just sell this team outright for a nice profit. And dont kid yourselves, most likely its already a done deal, and its just a matter of crossing t's and dotting I's after the ratnicks get that license. How LA has 2 teams, and Toronto doesnt mystifies me, and Im sure there are groups there that could buy this club and make a boatload of cash playing there with 87 in the lineup. They could play in Ricoh Coliseum while a new building is being buiilt in North York, charge a bundle of cash fo the limited seating, and sell out every game. Its been done before, when the flames moved to CGY they played in a phone both known as the corral until the saddledome was finished.

Gary Bettman must be having a fit knowing this market is going down the chute, He hasnt even stopped by this year, has he?

It will get done. I really believe that. These things never get shored away until the very last minute anyway.

I really wish there was some way to get Onorato, O'Conner and Rendell to answer some of these hard questions.

What kind of questions would ask them if you had the chance to?

oh man... pff... i don't know. I really haven't been following every little detail of what has been going on since I live in MN now. If you were to confront them, I would get all the ammo I can. There was a post about Rendell's previous statements regarding the arena, I thought that was interesting, I would look into that. But remember, these guys are going to tap-dance to any question you would ask so... good luck.

I don't know what to think. I hopefully tell myself that the IoC plan is obviously the best and they will be awarded the license, therefore saving our beloved Pens. But then I realize the political figures we are dealing with, and it takes the wind out of my sails. I guess for the most part, I am cautiously optomistic, but I have allowed my self to recognize the fact that the Pens could leave.

I'm holding out hope for the Pens and Isle of Capri and I personally think they have an edge of Hannah or whatever their name is because of location. I've stated before that Station Square is an absolute disaster when it comes to logistics. I really enjoy it down there with its assortment of shops, clubs, and restruants but it is literally a mess when it comes to parking. You have to wait in lines that don't move and then pay way to much to park in parking lots designed by retards.

And this is all with NO casino down there. Granted if the Station Square group gets the license I'm sure they will try to improve this but when you are sandwiched between a giant hillside and a river you will find out you really can't do to much. You will still have all traffic coming off of one street. It would be the birth of the largest **** in the world...
