Why Jackman for Taticek is good

Postby Mosby on Thu Mar 09, 2006 6:00 pm

I hope it true. There been no other confirmation.

Defenseman on contract (one way) for 06-07:
1. Gonchar
2. Whitney
3. Cairns
4. Melichar
5. Scuderi

If we kept Jackman that would have been #6 on a one way. Orpik would be number #7 if we resign him. We needed to clear at least one defenseman on contract for Welch next year.

Hopefully, they're not afraid to simply release one or two of Melichar, Scuderi, and Cairns before next season if they can't be traded. Preferably, Melichar and Cairns. The defense needs to be overhauled. Dumping Jackman was a start. They're still not going to improve until they replace the Melichars and Cairns with legit defensemen.

You can't just release players. If you want rid of a player, you have 3 options. The player can be traded, put on waivers, or bought out. If you buyout the contract, you have to pay a significant amount of it...meaning it's not worth the money.

Is it still 75% of the deal? And I think even if you do that you still take a cap hit.

This is why Gonchar will be a penguin for a long time.
