"The plan put out by Forest City Enterprises and Harrah's makes a compelling case that no other can. Harrah's is the largest name in the business and includes brands like Caesars and Horseshoe. This company knows how to attract people and bring in revenues. I honestly believe people would travel to Pittsburgh to visit a Harrah's, because Harrah's has the unparalleled capacity to market and attract them.

They project that $155 million of the revenues in the first year alone will come from outside Allegheny County and more than 10,300 jobs will be created. Smaller casino players cannot commit to do what Harrah's could do for Pittsburgh. It is that simple."

Not to mention that FC owns the hotel, right? I already wrote my complaint to the PG. Again.

Does the PG realize, the only Pro-Harrah's letters are coming from people connected to the plan or ignorant citizens who are incapable of simple math.

Kane must be lined up for a new job.

I've tried to point that out to them, but evidently I carry no weight over there.

There has to be a conservative talk show host in Pittsburgh who hates the Liberal Block family owned PG enough to make an issue of this on their show.

I don't live in Pittsburgh anymore so I'm out of the loop on that front... who might that be...

P.S. Is Jim Quinn still around.... he had to be the most outrageous right wing shock jock in Pittsburgh for a while.

Quinn only cares about national news or anything reported on Drudge. I seldom hear him mentioning anything local anymore. Good luck if you try to get him. I hope you can.

I also wrote a letter to the PG in response. Contents follow:

The March 10th letter penned by Joseph Kane concerning the Pittsburgh slots license ("All About Revenues") should be discounted based on the fact that he is the general manager of a hotel owned by Forest City Enterprises.

If Harrah's is such a giant in the casino industry, and if they really think that they can generate over $617M in revenues per year in this market (over $200M more than their competitors' estimates and $250M more than estimates by third parties such as the Innovation Group and Specturm Gaming Group), then surely they could set aside $290M for a new Pittsburgh multi-purpose arena.

If a smaller player like Isle of Capri can make such an offer, why would Harrah's not be compelled to match? Do they not have to do so because the fix is in?

Didn't their own consultant say that 3/4 of the slots revenue will come from local sources?

This man is a genius! He's the only one who sees the truth, that millions of people are hoping and praying for the opportunity to fly from hundreds or thousands of miles away to sit in front of a slot machine and then go get a beer at the Hard Rock Cafe! WHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD CAN YOU DO THESE TWO THINGS IN THE SAME COMPLEX??????

The truly amazing thing is that

1) The convention center would be better off with a New Arena and...

2) The IoC slots parlor would be located closer to the convention center and Hotel than a FC Sta. Square slots parlor.

FC does have one worry though about IoC, IoC is promising to build a 200 room hotel in the redeveloment project. That hotel will be close enough to the convention center to compete for guests.
