What are our current lines? -Nasredinne?

Postby Pens4Life on Sun Mar 19, 2006 3:04 pm

How is he veteran d-man playing, should we keep him for 7th dman next year?
And what are our lines now? is Roy really on top line now? Why Nordgren doesnt get a shot on 3rd line at least.Koltsov doesnt deserve to play on top 3 lines! 4th line OK and PK!

Nasredine has been fairly solid, but as far as keeping him up here, I would wait till camp next year and judge everyone. I would give Nordgren more ice time to see what he's got. I agree that Koltsov should be on the 4th line.... and I think that Cairns should be in the lineup every night.

Do you think Cairns and Roy should both be in every night?

That's insane. Why waste a spot by using both?

So, roughly, what are our lines at the moment?

It's a question. If you put Cairns in, who do you take out? Who replaces Roy?

Roy has been doing an awesome job lately, fulfilling his role to a point. He really is the best fighter I've seen in awhile, he almost always lands one good punch that sends the guy spinning. Is he worth the money? Probably not, but at least he isn't on the IR or being scratched anymore.

Yes. Dress Roy and Cairns every night.

If you want Crosby to have a long career, the Pens would ideally have two heavyweights in the lineup at all times.

Speaking of Vandenbussche, what is his story? I always liked him.

I was so mad the last 2 night, especially thursday against NJ when White elbowed Sid.

I think Cairns is the best fighter out of the bunch, but Roy and Vandy are pretty good players. Roy has pretty decent hands, while Vandy is a great forechecker.

Cairns is useless as a Defensemen though, I wouldnt mind seeing him try at Forward, now is the time to do that stuff. Season is over and losing isnt a real big deal.

Vandy is hurt and out for the season, and I dont know about his contract but I wouldnt bring him back next year. And yes, I would play both Roy and Cairns. I don't think Cairns has played that poorly defensively, and I think the team can use the extra muscle. I would scratch Surovy, he's just not getting much done out there.

I'm all for Cairns. He doesn't do entirely stupid things, and he doesn't carry the much anyways like Gonchar or Whitney so he can't really be stupid in that respect. He's a big, physical presense and I like it!

Last game the forwards started off like this:

Rita-Crosby-Armstrong
LeClair-Malone-Boguniecki
Surovy-Hilbert-Ouellet
Roy-Koltsov-Nordgren

After the first period, Rita must have been benched as he only had 1 shift in the second and was gradually worked back into the lineup in the third. Different people filled in Rita's spot, notably Andre Roy who scored the game winner.

NHL.com has shift charts for almost every game. Here is link to the one from last night's game against Montreal.

It's a bit much too look at at first, but basically the player get a green bar when on the ice and a white box with red Xs when in the box. To see who played with who, just look at which players have green at the same time.

Do you have a quote saying he is out? I heard late March.

I am under the impression he was out for the season, I think I read that a while back in the PG, but I may be wrong. There aren't that many games left anyways.

Netwolf--thanks for that link to the shift chart.

What did--or didn't--Nordgren do last night to annoy Therrien?

I don't really know, but I am guessing it is just a matter of Nordgren learning the system and getting into the shape Therrien wants. He was playing 4th line in Carolina. Besides, the other combos seems to be meshing well, why tinker with them?

When you are talking about 4th line players that only get 4 minutes of time anyway... I have no problem filling those roster spaces with "tough guys" or fighters or what-not. I would rather have the option of a fighter sitting there than the option of yet another guy exactly like 5 other guys on other lines. Varity and options. 4 minutes is not where a "depth" player should be...
