How sure is it that Malkin will wear number #18

Postby ajh2298 on Fri Mar 24, 2006 11:53 pm

I want to get a couple of Pens Jerseys from the Reebok store and want to pick up a Malkin one and the wife will get the Crosby one. I just need to know what % it is that Malkin will go with #18, before I place my order.

Thanks,
ajh2298

p.s.
What are the % that Malone will be here also she now wants a Malone jersey too.

He wears 71 for his Russian team, he wore 17 in junior-level international competition, and 18 in the Olympics. He could not wear 17 in the Olympics as the Russians have it retired.

If I had to guess, I'd go with 17, but again, that's just a guess.

and keep in mind that Murley is currently wearing 17, so that's not a sure bet either

I would think Murley would be asked to forfiet that number in that case. Malkin has a much brighter future than Murley.

I wouldn't get one yet. Too much of a risk.

Malkin could very well wear none of those numbers. The reason he wears 71 is likely because it's the opposite of Kharlamov's number. The reason he wears 17 in the Junior tournaments is because traditionally the captain/leader/best player on those junior teams wears that number.

He might wear 17 in the NHL like some (Kovalchuk) have done. He might try to get Koltsov to let him have 71. He might go with 18, or maybe some other completely different number.

If I had to guess at his NHL number, I'd say 17. But I wouldn't buy a jersey right now.

If Malkin says he wants to wear 17 the Pens would send Murley to Wheeling if that helped get him over.

Hopefully the legendary Jiri Slegr won't be too offended if he selects 71 with the Pens.

unless you are not in city.

my nephew is in LA; wears his penguin regalia and it always strikes
up a conversation. Last week he told me a Duck fan didn't realize
how very close they were to winning Sidney.
