Either allow teams to play their prospects wherever they want or move the draft age back a year. Fleury, and Crosvy for that matter, should have been allowed to play in the AHL if we wanted them to.

Agreed. It's so strange that a kid could play in the NHL but not the AHL...

Probably get flamed for this, but if there was one Pen I covet the most it's Fleury. I would take him over Crosby in a heartbeat. As a Flyers fan I'd do anything to have a goaltender with the potential he has for once. Even though Nittmaki is young and upcoming I don't think he's even near Fleury.

Not a flameor anything... but it seems like the Flyers consistantly blame their goaltending for their failures. Is it sort of like how people blame Mario/CP for stuff whether it's their fault or not?

Honestly though, they're right. We haven't had a reliable money goalie since Hextall's rookie season when he took the Oilers to 7. Other than that, goaltending is what have hampered them most. The only time I'd say it didn't was Chechmanek vs the Sens rd 1 when the Flyers scored a whopping 2 goals in 5 games. Other than that Goaltending has been their achilles. Lucky you guys don't have to worry about that.

I can easily see FN's point. The Devils wouldn't have won their Cups without Brodeur. Colorado wouldn't have won without Roy. The thing that may have very well sunk the 1992-93 Pens team (arguably a better team than the Cup winners) was inconsistent goaltending in the playoffs. Same thing with the Pens team that lost to the Panthers in the Conf. Finals about ten years ago. How many other solid teams have we seen bounced from the playoffs because of inconsistent goaltending?

This is why it drives me nuts to hear people get down on Fleury so hard right now. He has his flaws, but most of those are chalked up to inexperience, and most of his flaws are things that will be corrected as he gains experience (case in point...two or three years from now, Gionta doesn't beat him with that game-winner last night).

Agreed. I just hope we aren't waching his development only to see him prosper somewhere else.
