Whst I would like to see next year.

Postby NJ5934 on Sun Apr 02, 2006 8:18 am

As if there haven't been enough of these posts.

Kessel Crosby Armstrong
Samsonov Malkin Christensen
Koltsov Malone Hilbert/Leclair
Roy Talbot Donovan (Sean)

Whitney Orpik
Welch Gonchar
Scuderi/Lannon
Chara/Redden/Mitchell

Ouellet, Endicott, Surovy and Rita can find new homes, along with CP. I don't think they bring enough to justify spots on the top two or bottom two lines.

We have enough American players LOL

Take Staal!! He'll be the best player of the draft, hands down!! He's from my hometown, the whole family is amazing. Jordan is better than Eric, and the youngest Jared is better than them both!

my take

I think it will be tough to lure FAs here because of the possibilty of the Pens moving. I wouldn't want the Pens to overpay FAs because of the location situation. Any new players to the organization will come through trades (except for Recchi). Until Leclair gets traded in the summer, it still seems like Recchi will be back since he probably will be fairly cheap.

Also, I think with the waiver rules being what they are now, players who need to pass through waivers will get every chance to stick with the team, even after training camp ends. CP took a lot of heat for not keeping Christensen and Whitney at the start of the season, but with all these young players, it's just good asset management. Although once a waiver-eligible player is sent down, management should have the policy of not bringing them back up for the season. If this made clear to the players, you'll certainly get the best out of those players. I think Christensen and Talbot will start the season in the AHL, waiting for first/second line or third/fourth line injuries/demotions respectively. Lannon will be the first call-up for any injuries on D.

No matter who the Pens draft, hopefully Kessel or Johnson, they should start in WBS.

I hope Endicott isn't with the team next year, but he probably will be. He must have seen Pens management kill and cannibalize a hooker. I thought Brian Holzinger had something, but Endicott must have him beat.

Nordgren will probably move back overseas like Morozov did.

I hope Rita gets more of a chance along with Boguniecki. I'm cool with Surovy and Ouellet being extras or traded.

Hilbert / Crosby / Armstrong
Surovy or someone he gets traded for / Malkin / Rita
(or worst case scenario: LeClair / Endicott / Recchi)
Malone / Kolanos / Boguniecki
Koltsov / Taticek / Roy
Ex: Murley / Ouellet

Scuderi / Gonchar
Whitney / Welch
Orpik / Melichar
Ex: Cairns

Fleury / Caron

Well, I'd settle for Aubin, but I'm holding out for the best of the best.

I'm pretty sure Kessel is planning on staying in college at least another year, so if we did draft him we wouldn't see him for at least another year.

The only thing I want to see next year is Malkin in a Pens uniform and CP let go. Maybe Erik Johnson too, if he plans on playing in the NHL next year...

right, so Staal is better than Kessel simply because he's from Canada. Make perfect sense.

I haven't seen that said from any source I've read. (I know you weren't talking to me, obviously, since I didn't post in this thread). Kessel is apparently a pretty shy kid and is not the egomaniac some fans make him out to be (for whatever reason).

I don't think he makes the best second pick for the Pens if Johnson is taken first, but thats a different matter.

For next year, I'd like to see the Pens go almost strictly with youth. If a good winger like Samsonov or Elias is available, I'd go for it, and I think it would be smart to bolster the blueline with one or two of the several solid guys who will become available. Some names I've seen that I like a lot are Sarich and Bouillon.

I'm from Thunder Bay too... just saying.

I was really hoping they took Eric in the MAF draft, however, I'm really happy with MAF now. I'd love to see Jared on the team.

Kolanos-Crosby-Armstrong
Samsonov-Malkin-Rita
[free agent]-Malone-Hilbert
Roy-Talbot-Koltsov

I think the team will have enough cash to obtain a top-end offensive winger, although they need two (as you can see from Kolanos on the top line and Rita on the second). Trade Leclair for anything -- he doesn't fit in. Neither do Ouellet and Surovy. Third-line free agent must be quick. Koltsov has proven that he's an effective 4th liner and nothing more.

Welch-Gonchar
Whitney-Orpik
Melichar-FA
x. Scuderi

FA should be a righty.

Pens 06-07

Postby André on Thu Apr 06, 2006 4:36 am

I know this is wishful thinking, but imagine Suchinsky - Malkin - Morozov as the pens 2nd line :) Three of the Russian Superleague's very best players and it could solve any potential problems for Malkin (how he fits in, likes it in America, language barrier etc).

Last time Morozov played with a great center (Lemieux in 02-03) he did very well and now he's awesome in Russia. And I don't think anyone didn't like what they saw of Malkin and Suchinsky in the olympics.

And before repeating "Morozov will NEVER be with the pens again" please explain why you think it impossible. He might want a 2nd chance with the pens, and playing wing on Malkin's line must be tempting.

LW (FA?) - Crosby - Armstrong

Suchinsky - Malkin - Morozov

Gonchar (we're not getting rid of him and he could thrive if the team improves), Orpik, Whitney, Welch + one FA?

Fleury - Caron

This means only to decent FA's and pens would have two potential top class units.

Alot of wishful thinking here, of course. But entirely impossible? :)

Nice to be back on the board btw, didn't care to register until last week.
