Numbers for the team may have been, but they were largely more effective than the current PK. The team was taking so many penalties that multiple units were being used, the no 1 was wearing out. They did a good job killing for the most part, and were probably one of the bright spots from the Edzo era.

If that's true, then the addition of Malkin and return of Talbot and Murley, along with the experience Malone and Koltsov are getting, the PK unit should be vastly improved!

Problem is that likely Murley, Malone and possible Koltsov will not be resigned. That's where the tough decisions will be made this summer. Which two of those three or possibly only one gets resigned?

Murley hasn't done much to justify a pay increase much beyond what he's getting.

Malone struggled enough at the beginning that we could probably sign him for a year for current price and tell him to prove himself for the money in 07.

Koltsov will probably command a bit more, but I don't think it will be anything that would break the bank. He improved and fell into a role this season, so if the current coaching staff will be staying and would like him to continue that role, I think he'd be worth the money.

If it's the direction we're headed, I wouldn't mind seeing all 3 back and I don't think it would cost us too terribly.

I don't see why Malone or Koltsov wouldn't get resigned. Malone might be a problem as far as money goes, but based on quotes, he wants to be back. Given the way he's finished the season, I'm sure the Pens will welcome him back. Koltsov has carved out a niche. As long as the Pens want him back - and they should - he'll return. I'd give Murley a two-way deal. I was never a big fan, but I guess he could fill a role on the fourth line.

I say they definitely will resgin Malone and KK and probably MM as well. What makes you think that resigning them is unlikely?

That will come down to dollars and need. Like it or not Ryan is too inconsistent and will want more money. Koltsov still can't finish anything but is pure speed, his price will be cheap. Murley can't finish but can pass better than the other two and will likely come cheap. Decisions, decisions. Don't be surprised if Malone's gone. Koltsov and Murley work out some how to be signed.

The Penguins HAVE to make a generous offer to McCaulty of San Jose. An UFA who is a Selke runner up and a consistant over 50% drawman. It is a must. Malone is a winger.

Gee what a shock, Flat Footed Melichar takes a penalty in front of the net and the other team scores.

Malone SHOULD be back. This team can't afford to just let a 20-30 goal gut walk away. If you put him back at LW with Malkin he might end up a 30-40 guy. Consistency is the big thing with him.

Koltsov has shown improvement since the break. I doubt he'll ever progress to the point of being worthy of a first round pick, but I think he's well on his way to becomeing a really solid checker who will always generates chances for his linemates. Good teams always have guys like him, or more aptly, like the player I believe he will be in a year or two.

I have not seen enough of Murley at this level to decide one way or another on him.

The Penguins just refuse to score tonight. This game should be 10 - 2.

I don't expect Koltsov to make that play, but LeClair on the other hand....

He is having a very forgettable game. I have lost track of how many passes he's failed to catch.

Well I didn't say Ryan should be back. I just think he may not be. Murley is a far smarter hockey player than either Malone or Koltsov. Much better playmaker and positionally sound. He just doesn't have the killer instinct to shoot. The guy has a pretty good shot too. Koltsov has the speed, Malone has the size, but it all comes down to the Benjamins. Thats why I think Malone will be gone to a higher bidder. He's not worth what he's going to get elsewhere.

Warning rant in progress: I just bother me that right now with as hard as they have worked that we get a decent lead and all of a sudden MAF lets in 2 and the d is not working and the whole team just seems to fall apart. Are they afraid they might win this one they tried so hard then let is slip whats up with that?

It's too bad there's only a couple of minutes left. 87 could hit 100 tonight. :D

Why pull him at 40 seconds but not at 1:30? Makes no sense...
