Some encouraging numbers

Postby Henry Hank on Thu Apr 13, 2006 10:33 pm

The Pens' record since the trade deadline: 7-8-1
Goals per game in that stretch: 3.19 (compared to 2.92 for the season)
Goals against: 2.88 (compared to 3.86 for the season)

That's about encouraging as anything. If they keep strong the last three games, they finish about the last quarter of the season at around .500 hockey with much improved play on both sides of the ice. That's very significant going into next season. Moving on...

With 97 points, Crosby's tied for seventh with Savard and Staal. He almost certainly will be the youngest to 100, and he should also be the youngest to finish in the top ten in scoring. He even could finish as high as fourth. Heatley's fourth right now with 99 points. On top of that, Sidney has set a new Penguins rookie assist record, passing Lemieux's 57.

Sergei Gonchar has passed Mathieu Schneider for seventh in scoring among defensemen with 57 points.
