Crosby vs Alfredsson and Kovalchuk

Postby Jim on Fri Apr 14, 2006 7:26 am

Looking at the stats list I noticed something. Many Pens fans, Crosby fans, have a chip on their shoulder right now for Alfredsson and Kovalchuk because they negatively comment on or pointed at Crosby this season.

Scoring race as it stands right now:

Daniel Alfredsson 42-57-99 with 2 games left
Ilya Kovalchuk 52-46-98 with 3 games left
Sidney Crosby 38-59-97 with 3 games left

There is a chance that Crosby could finish above both of them in the scoring race.

And that would be a beautiful thing. Out points them both playing on the worst team in the league. The real icing would be if both guys get knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. Another reason to watch the playoffs.

I was thinking about this last night. Ottawa only has 2 games left. Crosby could pass Heatley and Alfredsson by Monday night, or as early as Saturday. Maybe Sid can counsel Opie on his finishing kick.

Kovalpunk might be harder to catch. Atlanta has 3 games left and they are in a chase for the 8th spot. Will play with a little more urgency.

Scoring could easily end up with Ovechkin third and crosby fourth.

With Washington playing Tampa, Atlanta and Florida, while the Pens play Islanders, Islanders, Leafs... anything is possible.

Crosby has had some good games vs. NYI but the away game in Toronto could be a goose egg. He better get as many points as he can over these next 2 games!!

He just needs to put up a hat trick and get to 100 in style.
