told the gaming board to pull the arena issue out of the equation since the Govenor is guaranteeing the Pens a new arena since all three applicants are offering money and to do what s best for the city of Pittsburgh.

When did FC gurantee the money? Last I heard, FC wasn't comitting to Rendell's plan until the Pens did.

Besides, they can't tell the gaming board what to do. They have no say. Isn't that what the politicians have been saying ever since the arena issue began to gain steam?

Politicians suck.

At this point the gaming board isn't involved anymore. This is a separate arrangement with the winner of the license. The Pens should sign off on it as soon as Harrah's is fully on board.

Man, now I'm really nervous. The fact that Danny O. said that the arena is now not an issue in deciding who gets the license scares me. It's just what these slimey bastages wanted to happen all along. Now the GCB doesn't feel the pressure of the Pens and they can go ahead and make Rendell happy and take care of his boys. That Harrah's plan sucks, for us and the city!

Man, you have to get out of the conspiracy world. They know a new arena needs build with or w/o the Pens and they will do their best to get one.

Rendell holds O'Connor and Onorato's political future as they are junior democrats in this state. They need to win Rendell's favor so that their local initiatives are well funded by the state.

I knew O'Connor was scum to begin with.

I had hope for Onorato at the beginning of this. Now he's looking after his political future.

But you know what, if the Pens leave it'll be on their watch and it will be them that pays for it politically, not Rendell. The population base in this state is Philadelphia centric. He'll get his votes and FC will be re-paid in full.

Wow, like I said, everyone needs to step back and get out of this mafia mind frame. Onorato got what he set out to do, get all applicants to contribute to a new arena. Now it is his job to entice the Pens to stay by getting a sweet lease agreement for them if they agree to Plan B if the IOC doesn't win. He even said he is getting hard at work on that right away. That is the next piece of the puzzle.

Granted, I want the IOC to win. I believe it is the best for out city. But there is no guarantee and they are covering their bases in case they don't.

I think he is doing a very good job at creating an alternate route if Plan A falls through. And if Barden wins the license, is it a fix?

There is no way the Penguins will publicly agree to Plan B until the casino license is awarded because doing so would break their exclusive contract with IOC.

I don't know how you separate the proposals from the arena issue when determining what is best for the city (and therefore the taxpayers), but, nonetheless, it seems like the best proposal for the City of Pittsburgh is the IOC plan. Downtown Pittsburgh is a ghost town with nothing but the unwanted there at night, and this development would give it a much-needed shot in the arm. If the City wants to continue seeing people moving into the City, having IOC there would surely help that development and cleaning up the current crap and people that are there at night and on weekends. Pushing this development across the rivers is dumb, dumb, dumb...

Just when I thought Onorato was the one with some legs . . . he crawls back up the governor's a#$! There IS NO PLAN B! Harrah's said today that they would not commit any $ yet, and even if Barton comes through with some money for the next 30 years . . . the other $7 mil Fast Eddie was talking about is NOT AVAILABLE. It's illegal as the law reads now. THERE IS ONLY ONE PLAN, AND IT'S IOC. :!:

Ken Sawyer is not a moron. Why would anybody think he would take Rendell's word and commit the Pens to Plan B only to have Rendell and Harrah's renege? The NHL, like all real businesses use something called a contract to make their deals. He or most likely the NHL won't agree to Plan B until it is a binding contract.

Rendell needs to get this done before the November election to get any political benefit. The Pens and IoC will roast him if the arena is still and issue before the election. Even though the license won't be awarded until after the election the NHL could agree to Plan B as a backup because they ultimately will have to approve the new Pens ownership and also any possible franchise move. The closer this gets to November the more leverage the Pens have. It is still very early in the game.

If Harrah's commits their $$$ before the Pens/NHL agree to the framework of the deal they have played their final card and their position is exposed relative to IoC since the Pens threat of departing still would exist. The Pens have plenty of support from local politicians on both side of the aisle, so it shouldn't be much trouble to act on a law enabling the State's contribution.
