It is official - CP gone. Although I missed whther he was fired or resigned.

Feel sure many candidates will come forward to apply to take the team to the Cup.

Sees no coaching change coming - very happy wit Therien.

CP out.

Sawyer said the plan is to bring Therrien back.

He also referred to us as having the #2 pick. So either St. Louis or a low pick won the lottery (NHL.com not listing results yet).

Will take time to interview candidates - no real rush at this time.

Said CP was very gracious and professional, so i'd think they "fired" him.

Sees more than 1 person being hired for several positions.

Didn't come out and say it but it sounds like he has multiple hires in mind. Does not have a list of people to talk to and has not been approached by anyone about the job yet.

No particular candidates in mind - has seen everyone else's "likely" candidates. Will use his contacts around the league for advice on hire.

Planning no other changes right now, other than adding staff - which will be new GM's job.

Mario has very mixed feelings about CP moving on, but agreed it was best for the Pens.

Doesn't want to get into why. It's time to turn the page and hire a GM for this new generation of the team.

Sawyer:

"No one reason. Felt it was time to turn the page and find a new GM to take us into the next generation."

Just said it'd be non-negotiable with the new GM that Therrien is staying.

More like a GM, a director of player personnel, maybe a new scouting director, maybe an assistant GM to handle the cap stuff.

In other words, finally doing what every other team has been doing for years.

Better to have someone in place by UFA date, but not disasterous.

Will probably add a coach by next season.

Says tretiak is commintted to working out a new transfer deal (in reference to Malkin).

Confident UFA players will want to come here.

Admin - Yes, CP refused to hire 'captains' because he didn't trust people and that failure to trust alienated many in the organization.

I expect the Pens to hire a GM, Assistant GM, Director of Player Personnel, a new Director of Scouting, a second assistant coach to help Therrien and Yeo, and more pro scouts.

Microphone broken at the start of press conference. That was the most exciting thing that happened.

Sawyer spoke, said nothing earth shattering. Team needs to move forward, lots of good available people will step forward and the search begins immediately.

Q & A from the press:

1. Sawyer pleased with Therrien, and thinks he'll do a good job as we move forward. New GM will be non-negotiable on Therrien, he is staying.

2. New ownership shouldn't be held back by lack of GM presently, and potential buyers will step forward based on player talent.

3. No time table for GM hiring. The plan is to hire more than one person, creating new ranks within the scouting department.

4. As of now, he didn't want to comment on any particular names or candidates. Says nobody has contacted the Pens yet.

5. No changes are immediately planned to cut back any of the CP staff -- the decision will be the new GM's to make. This includes Glen Patrick.

6. Mario talked with Craig and was part of the decision to move forward.

7. Sawyer refused to answer questions as to the particulars of 'why' Patrick was fired. Just kept saying the new generation Pens need to move forward.

8. Says GM may not necessarilly be in place by free agency opening. He said we won't be competing with teams that are at the cap level, so it's not important to jump in right away, but will look carefully.

9. Says he has talked to Therrien and they will probably hire a 3rd coach.

10. Sawyer says Tretiak being head of Rus. has already led to talks with NHL on transfer agreement and he is confident that Malkin will be able to come over.

12:45 pm, press conference over. Sorry for the fragments guys, I think I got most of it in there.

I just thought it was gaping open around the 2nd button -- but clearly not enough.
