Oh that's sure to be insightful. Hopefully Big Boy doesn't throw softball amateur questions to Melrose like he does to Jack Ham. Madden might be the only person who makes Melrose look like he knows what he's talking about.

Last night on ESPN news NHL review

"Folks, Jaromir Jagr might be the most important player in the playoffs this season if he plays well they have a chance, he's the best player in the world"

Two questions later

"Folks, Peter Forsberg will be the key to any team in the playoffs, no one is as important as him, when healthy he's the best player in the world"

Gee way to stick to your guns Barry.

Looks like Barry Melrose might have asked John Madden for some tips at a ESPN/ABC party.

Madden will talk about how Kovy is a Penguin, LeClair a cancer and how Patrick made a great move in getting Palffy (Madden said Palffy would get 50 goals on a line with Lemieux and Crosby).

He also said great goaltending would be overrated this season. Basically any stiff will do because scoring will reign. Something also to the point that the Pens would break the all time NHL mark for PP goals.

He knows his stuff for sure.

Next hour I think he's going to be entirely on the subject of the moral and ethical superiority of the wise and completely honest Fast Eddie Rendell, culminating with a call for his immediate beatification. You'll want to tune in.

On SportsCenter last night Melrose said Staal was the most important player in the east.

Maybe he knows something we don't. Maybe Forsberg, Jagr, and Staal are all actually one divine Player who manifests Himself in three Forms on three different Teams. This Player is both Real and Imagined. He is His own Center, Wing, and Goaltender. And Defenseman. He gets both Assists on each of His Goals. He Scores all Goals yet remains Scoreless.

Maybe Barry isn't a complete hacking moron, he's actually a mystical sage.

Oh, and I'm sticking with my pre-season prediction that Kris Beech would be the Most Important Player, ever.

No, but Barry being the biggest suck @$$ in NHL history explains it.
I think Barry wants to be a groupie.

Barry's still mad about that 1993 series with the Canadiens that kept him from immortality in LA...
