This coaching is as bad as ever.

Recchi on the pp point, while Jackman is a scratch? He is responsible for all 3 short handed goals. I think that it is absolutely rediculous to have the second best offensive defenseman in the stands, especially when they are actually dressing 7 D. Therrian is a blow hard. This team is a disgrace.

Oh and Bogeneicki, should not have gotten a penalty at all, let alone a 5 min major. Shubert played the puck and then got hit. Clean all around. If the Pens had not self destructed I would be pissed at the officiating.

YUCK.

Therrien was hired AFTER this team was destined for the cellar...has to overcome a lack of talent ...MINUS Lemieux...MINUS Palffy. Scotty Bowman, Toe Blake, etc. couldn't get this team to win

You and Ziggystardust must come from the same school of reasoning. What in the heck do you expect from MT? Look at what he has to deal with! Jackman has been just as bad as any other defenseman we've played this year, and you think putting him in the lineup will solve our problems? Jackman may have the points, but his defensive play has been just as bad as the whole lot. Therrien is making due with what he has. This season is lost, and MT is doing his best to save some sort of face [although it appears to be none]. You can't place any of the blame on him.

Exactly. I invite you, SMTM, and Ziggystardust to suggest someone else who would be doing a better job with this group. As Abe said, Scotty Friggin' Bowman would be useless in a situation like this. We have a horrible mix of players and the season is lost. It was lost before MT took over. You can thank CP and Edzo for that. So between now and next season, develop some sense and reserve your judgement on MT for next year.

MT needs to give Endicott more ice time. Because Endicott rhymes with score alot... so thats good.

He was hired to turn things around, but think logically here. What means does he have to turn this club around? LeClair gave up, Lemieux and Palffy retired, the rookies are inexperienced, Crosby has no support, the defense sucks, Fleury is getting fatigued, so on and so on...

Everyone needs to wait until Therrien has the club from camp to the end of the season before they jump down his throat.

I'd add to this:

We must wait to see IF the new ownership group retains Craig Patrick...and WHAT trade deadline / offseason moves are made. I fear that a new management group may be necessary for a smooth turnaround ON the ice. And this may mean Patrick needs to be replaced...new blood.

Does everyone here think we should keep Therien here for next season,or go out and look for a better head coach. I can't blame him for how bad the team has been, but maybe the players could use a change for next year?

MT will be here next year... not much point in discussing it.

Oh and about CP... the word is out about him... the writing is on the wall and I think he knows it too.

Not necessarily. If a new GM comes in he may want to put his own coach in place. Contract mean little in pro sports..

When will people get it. They sucked with Kehoe. They sucked with Edzo. They suck with MT. This is NOT about the coaching anymore. It's about personel and lack of effort. Just watch the goddamn games, you can see our players just cannot keep up with the rest of the league with the exception of a few.

I think Patrick should be and will be gone but Therrian will get a half of a season to prove his worth. What he did for the AHL squad is still significant from a motivation standpoint. They may need a more tactical assistnat to round out the staff but they should get 40 games into 05-06. If the team is anything like this team he deserves to be fired too.

Personally I've only had 2 complaints about Therrien since he took over... Recchi on the point on the PP and Endicott on the ice at all. Other than those two things I haven't complained once. As opposed to a list too long to type that I complained about with Edzo.

The Pens played a brilliant 1/2 game tonite--strong backchcking, decent push up th ice, and played within themselves. They looked like a team. And if they can win 1/2 a game against one of the best teams in the league, then it follows they cd win a whole one. So why didnt they?

Ottawa is a better team right now, by far.

Lack of confidence by Pens--they expect to lose. As horrible as that power play was (more in a minute, it was still tied at that point, but they played like the game was over and that's a huge difference between a bad team and a good one.

I have to agree w the bad coaching decision w Recchi--the question about Jackman isnt whther he shd be on the power play--even he's good enough to play D on the power play--it's whether the Pens can afford to have a specialist on the roster, since Jackman is clearly not a strong 5 on 5 defenseman. So there its hard to know what's best.

Fatigue I dont know if its this or lack of confidence, but the Pens have been in many games until something like tonite's 2 SHGs happen and they are suddnly behind every play. Anybody out there whohasnt really played any hockey doesnt know how goddamned hard it is to play the way they need to play every night; old guys get tired and young guys who havent played at this level wear out (an imperfect analogy wd be Ben Ro's comments after the playoffs next year). I have said before in other threads that I think conditioning is Gonchar's problem too.

I'm hardly saying to stand pat here, but these guys have to realize that they had Ottawa where they wanted them and let them get away. They cd have won this game. But until they KNOW that, it'll be "close but no cigar" night after night.

And as far as changes we can expect w new management, it is hard for me to believe that they wont change everybody when they come in. They wont be hockey people, and theyare going to see is all the losses and I think there will be pressure to make changes, even if just for the sake of making them. It's not like they'll be buying the New Jersey Devils.

I dont think its just them. The primary reason is that Ken Sawyer dude. He has been sticking his big snooty snot into everything. Mario was his PR puppet and Mario did a wonderful job of selling the seasons with his workout tape  , and the Cup hype this past summer. Patrick has had his hands tied due to money but the moves he was allowed to make have pretty much all failed miserably.

I didn't say the players were any better, but if they suck they suck. There's not a coach in the league that could make any difference with this roster.

The thing with Recchi is... HE'S BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL ON THE POINT LATELY. Other than tonight he's been great up there. Scoring goals, making things happen along with Sid. Right now it's pick your poison. But you can't blame Therrien for using a vet, the team leader right now, in one of the most important roles on the power play, especially when he's shown promise.

As for Endicott, god do I ever agree. Endicott is not an NHL player right now. He isn't even close. Along with the Endicott situation is why Christensen isn't in Pittsburgh instead.
