Who could we give that they would want?

Any deal for Jay-Bo starts with Staal

Why not just name the teams who don't have an interest? At least Eklund is getting smarter, pretty soon he won't be giving rumors by individual teams but by conferences.

found this on Eklund (i know) but thought it would be interesting to discuss.
Can't imagine the Pens D if Bouwmeester were to be added.

Jay Bouwmeester

Toronto (15%) Ottawa (5%) Boston (10%) Edmonton (5%) San Jose (10%) Dallas (15%) Colorado (15%) St Louis (15%) Pittsburgh (10%)

What is that? Everyone with cap space and the desire to better themselves?

Since there will be a bidding war, I'd imagine the price would be Staal, Whitney, and a first. And I would say no to that. That's too much depth to be giving away.

That would be an insane price for him. I was thinking Whitney plus some would make sense for the Pens (giving up Staal right now would not make any sense given what we have going into this year). If it does take as much as you are saying, no way.

I think he would be perfect for the flyers, and I hope to heck their
fiscal spending will not allow that to happen. He is the defenseman
needed for them in the Atlantic div. Thankfully the NYR are filled
to the brim with defense.

all 1 year contracts go to motown.

Well damn...

Eklund picked 9 teams to Bouwmeester to go to... and he didn't go to any of them. Wouldn't it be great if people stopped reading his site.

The price for us for JB is going to be either one of Whitney or Staal, not both (plus a minor league talent and maybe a draft pick).

JB really has Florida by the bawlz in this situation.

I'd love to see JB here but not at the expense of Staal. This team would have 35 billion defensemen on it.

If we could give up Whitney, Caputi, and a 2nd, I'd be all for it. (If and only if JB signs for $6m a year over the long haul). Whitney is such a steal at $4m at this point.

UFA after this season and rentable at the deadline means you don't have to necessarily give up all those picks for him.

Since it's virtual, I'll offer up Pascal Dupuis, Janne Pesonen, Eric Godard, Jeff Taffe, Jonathan Filewich, and 2 third round picks on NHL 09 for JB.

I would love to see Bow*^$#!ster or how ever you spell it on the Pens blue line. Put he and Orpik in pairings with Sarge and Whitney... talk about FREE CANDY. Not gonna happen, but dare to dream. I think RS wants a winger.

Sorry to change the subject...

The Pens site @ NHL.com has not updated rosters. Brent is no longer with us, traded for Richmond... & he's WB-S bound (Correct?) and what about Thomas? You know him, our local product to give us the next guy to say is going to take a hometown discount to play for his favorite team growing up  Why is he not listed and when he is is he WB-S bound?

Alright...I've got a proposal that no one here will like except me...

Pittsburgh gets:
Jay Bouwmeester (signed to at least a 6 year deal...or more.)
David Booth
Rights to Janis Sprukts (I have my reasons, just go with me, I know you've never heard of him)

Florida gets:
Ryan Whitney
Jordan Staal
5th round pick in 2009 (that becomes a 4th round pick if Sprukts signs)

I think I'd take that.

I didn't think anyone was allowed out of NHR right now. I don't like the trade, but not because I think its uneven.

In fairness Mikey, how could we come up with an informed opinion on a trade where by one guy isnt really on the radar? Booth looks to be a good young player and we know what JB's all about but this other guy, I admit I haven't heard of.

Admittedly, I know nothing about Sprukts. But even if you drop him, I say the deal is lopsided in favor of Pittsburgh. I guess I don't think as highly of Staal as you do.

I think Whitney+Staal would be a dramatic overpayment for Bouwmeester, even if he was signed to a new deal at the same time. The guy is a real stud on the blueline, but giving up 2 young stars(one of which has a great contract already) of your own for him? I don't think he's worth it. I don't think any blueliner right now is a big Pen need, even if he would be an improvement.

I really like Phaneuf too, but I wouldn't do a Whitney+Staal for him at this point in time either.

David Booth was the only panther I noticed at the games last year.

I can see him playing well with Sidney.
