Murray. No. Too old and unproductive.

Parrish: No. Useless.

Shanahan: Yes, can play third line, Power play, and penalty kill.

That is all.

Murray - No. I watched him last year in the playoffs, and my buddy had him in his hockey pool. He simply does not have it anymore. Boston, a mediocre team knows it, sorry Glenn, you've had your time.

Parrish - Maybe - He was a victim of the salary cap. After he clears re-entry waivers and is bought out by the Wild, I'd offer him a try out (ala Adam Hall last year). I'm sure someone will grab him, but if not, give him a shot and see how he does. (Ray... poke poke)

Shanahan - No - We lost leadership last year with Gary going, but the guys have learned. I expect Orpik to step up this year. We don't need Shanahan and his disapearing act. In his day, supa-star. But like murray, time to head to the booth or behind the bench.

No to all 3. I'd rather have Jeff Taint over any of those 3.

I agree Shanny doesn't have a whole lot left in the tank, but if you give him a third-line role and special teams time, he would have something to offer. If Mango Salsa could score 20 on the Pens PP, imagine what Shanny could do, parked at the left side of the crease. The Rags had him playing on the top lines, and I don't know that he's suited to that. But as a third-liner/PP specialist (somewhat the same role as Roberts had), I think he has value.

I do agree the leadership side of it is rather unimportant at this juncture. The run this year was all this group needs for future experience.

i disagree on shanny.

1. we already have too many 3rd liners. it would push a guy like Cooke to the 4th line, which mens there was no reason at all to sign him.
2. you saw Shanny in the playoffs against us. he was absolutely useless by that point in the year. unless he get a huge chunk of the year off like Roberts did for his injury, he would be no good when we actually need him.

How about this? You move Staal up to left wing with either Sid or Geno. Then you go with a third line of Talbot, Cooke, and Shanahan. That would be a tough line to play against, wouldn't it?

Then either Fedotenko or Dupuis is 4th line duty... again... I don't think that's the plan considering dupuis is making 1.2.

I like your thinking, MCM.

Staal - Crosby - Satan
Fedetenko/Pesonen - Malkin - Sykora
Cooke - Talbot - Shanahan
Dupuis - Beech - Kennedy

Extra: Godard, Taffe

Shanny also on the PP then, like you say. I could live with that.

having dupuis on the 4th line is a good thing because that means we have depth... but I don't think Shanny should be the guy to put him there.

I just think he will crap out come playoff time again. If he's a PP specialist sort of guy, I wouldn't want to have to shuffle the PP around at that point. And we'd have to have musical lines until MT found the combinations that worked.

If we're going to pick up more depth, someone cheaper and younger (therefore a little more consistent) would be my cup of tea. :D

no way

if malkin is on the point again this year, sykora has shown he's the ideal person to play "the sniper". unless shanny is good in front of the net, he'd probably be 3rd in line for that top line spot (give me satan there if sykora goes down).

Hmm, and I do want Staal to see more PP-time...

Tricky.
