Does Pesonen really have a shot at making this team?

Postby purelebo84 on Fri Aug 15, 2008 4:24 pm

I guess Shero, Defazio, and Fletcher seem to think so.

So, what do you think?

When training camp ends, will Puck Finn be on the roster?

I don't know if he will be on the team to open the season, but to answer your question, I vote yes. He does have a chance to make the team...

Most likely he will start in the AHL and fill in when someone gets hurt.

Yes, he could certainly make the team...whether he will or not will depend on everyone's training camp of course...

^ What he said. If he didn't have much of a chance, why would Shero have bothered?

Lots of depth for the third and fourth line. Whoever plays hard and impresses will make this team similar to Kennedy last year. If Pez wants it and plays like he wants it, he'll be on the team at some point this the year.

Pesonen could very well have the most talent behind Malkin, Crosby, Satan and Sykora. If anything from his youtube videos translates to the NHL he is a lock to make the team. If his solid two-way play makes it over and he scores when he gets into posiiton he should make the team as a 3rd line wing as a solid forechecker and scoring threat and the guy who cover the points in our own end.

I personally feel he's making the team and playing on Sid's LW.

I think he's going to be a legit top 6 here... and the only reason i say that is because text says he can finish. and if you can finish, you can play with a Sid or a Geno... *cough* Dupuis *cough*

I really hope that was meant to be a play on words.

Even if it wasn't, I'm going to pretend that's what he intended because that is funny.

He better make it. I've been spending the last week or so trying to find a way to score a Karpat jersey.

Besides, how am I gonna explain the Pelimies ringtone in December if he's not on the team?

I don't agree.

I think it is all or nothign with him.

3rd line or higher with the BIG Pens or he goes back home.

Too talented to sit in the AHL he will just go back home and shine!

They wouldn't have signed him if they didn't think he could make the NHL team. They're not looking at him as someone down the road. They've said that they're looking at him as a guy who can make an impact now. That makes sense because it's far more likely that he goes back to Europe rather than taking on long bus rides and playing for less money in the AHL in a foreign country.

If the question is will he make the team, that one pretty much has no straight answer. None of us know enough about him to make that judgment. I tend to sway towards the side of caution because it seems to be one of those too good to be true things, but you never know. I think the odds are considerably against him ever making a big impact in the NHL.

I remember reading that when the Ducks tried signing Pesonen before last season they were expecting 20-25 goals out of him.

I say he makes the team and is a 2nd line winger.

That's what I think too, if he doesn't make the big club, he's going home....how does that work? Is he just allowed to opt out of his contract, or does he have to report to WBS?

Simplest way we could do that, is putting a clause in his contract that allows for a loan back to Karpat Oulu or Ässät Pori or where ever he came from in the SM-liiga A...(see: Coyotes sign Surovy, Tomas; Aebischer, David)...

he will be on the team to start the season so that all the people in sweden can see the Finnish Leagues MVP play while the pens are in europe. It makes sense, and therien always makes decisions like that. If he works hard michel will say, he earned it and he deserves it

If he can play LW he certainly has an opertunity.

RW is fairly locked in with Satan, Sykora, Kennedy & Eric Godard (likely in that order) filling in the spots.

All of the LWers heading into camp are going to be battling to determine their role on the team.

I think most people have Fedotenko & Dupuis as the 2 guys most likely to fill out the LW spots on the top 6 but they are definetly not locked in at this point. If Pesonen has a good camp and puts up some points in the pre-season games its very likely he would displace one of those guys.

Godard certainly won't be playing most games and I wouldn't even claim Kennedy is a lock with our depth in 3rd/4th line players and AHL talent. Dupuis, Pez, Fedko, TK, Cookie, Stone, Talbot - all are limited in talented. And you never know when someone blows up in camp and makes the team like TK last year. I just hope the guys moved into a top six role don't hinder the lines like Dupuis last year.
