I read the article and went straight to youtube and watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5m8VueG56A . I love how he reacts at the end of the fight. Anyone think he'll give the Kennedys of the team some competition for fourth line minutes?

You don't put goal scorers on the 4th line. It is a spot on the top two lines or back to the Baby Pens so that he can hopefully learn to dominate in the AHL.

Caputi didn't adapt well enough in his first NHL stint to get penciled in on any line yet. Maybe later in the year, but he is a kid that dipped his toes in the pool before he jumped in. There is a lot more to his game that has yet to be exhibited at the AHL level for me to be comfortable penciling him in the NHL yet.

And don't forget, he may have been a goal-scorer last year, but when he was drafted he was projected as a third line kid with a grinder attitude who did a great job of killing penalties and stirring it up. The scoring touch came when Niagara became an offensive juggernaut. Legein, Pietrangelo, etc. were helping Gianluca dominate at the OHL level.

To be fair, Ryan Malone didn't turn into the player he is until this past season. If Caputi can gather an idea of self identity a little sooner, he could be a lot better.

Agreed. He was scoring regularly before his bout with mono. He's a perfect third liner.

I think that might be a fair comparison.

I want to see what he does in the AHL next year. A lot of his fire and penchant for stirring up trouble were non-existent in the playoffs. I hope he becomes comfortable and translates those attributes over to the next league. If he does, he could really turn into a versatile player.

Right now I'd peg him as a finesse player with the ability to kill penalties and muck it up, if needed.

Luca's game has changed drastically virtually every season (moreso than most prospects), so it'll be interesting to see where the AHL takes him.

I always throw this disclaimer out there, but remember that Niagara was stacked, and that type of offensive potential could be a bit of a flash in the pan, if you catch my meaning.

Let him play a full AHL season, then judge where he is. A whole lot of hype has been thrust on this kid here. If he can become a third liner that can pot a few, it will be good. But that will be viewed as a disappointment because of all the hype here.

Agreed, I can't figure out who we'll be most disappointed with from overhyping them, Gianluca or Goose...
