Maybe because outside of Cairns, Chara would have killed them. Cairns doesn't get on the ice enought to do anything.

Chara is a beast and gets away with BS like that all the time. He's a tough SOB and not too many guys in this league go after him. Usually when time comes he won't drop them unless it's someone he knows he'll ragdoll like Barnaby or McCabe.

Lurch is the best defensive defenseman in the game though. Would love to have that bastard.

Then that is crap on MT's part. If this team can't win, they should AT LEAST make a statement that nobody is going to mess with the teams stars (OK, Crosby and Fleury only) anymore and get away with it.

Chara is a great player, maybe the leading candidate for the Norris trophy. He has no reason to fight guys like Cairns. He should only be fighting guys that are good players.

I was shocked a superstar like Redden dropped the gloves against Lefebvre. The score was 7-2 and Redden is one of the best dman in the NHL. It made no sense for him to fight a minor league nobody and risk injury like that.

Brian Murray really has the Sens on the warpath this season. A McGrattan-Cairns fight would have been nice to see.

Niel's a tough kid, he would have destroyed Orpik. I did see Niel ***** from Cairns. He's held his own against Cairns in the past even with the huge size difference.

You're welcome...As for Redden - They had been cross checking each other for a few shifts, and Redden went to pinch on the boards, Lefebvre tried to pitchfork him, so Redden did the same, both face-washed each other, the sticks started to come up and they just both dropped.

I actually thought it was a pretty good fight too...they both landed a few nice shots as neither has a good tie-up technique.

Yeah, it was a decent fight, especially for Lefebvre. I watched the whole 3rd period but I wasn't paying attention to what started the fight. Lefebvre can throw punches with both hands so I think he catches other players off guard. I saw him destroy some guy from the Manitoba Moose on a WBS game shown on the NHL Network earlier this season. Lefebvre is doing a great job if he can get a superstar like Redden so off his game that he drops the gloves.

Shortly after Ottawa went up 3-2, I was watching the Pens bench behind the play, and after Chara went onto the ice, Cairns got up and positioned himself to go onto the ice, waving one of the Pens dmen over... MT or someone on the bench yelled something, as it appeared Cairns turned and looked down the bench, then sat back down.

I was watching this very closely, as someone pointed out, Cairns was talking to Chara as the teams were coming out for the third.

Shortly thereafter, Ottawa went up 4-2. Game over.

I agree. Chara isnt going to fight anyone. Unless its someone like Recchi or something, a fight he knows he will win. To tell you the truth I too, was a bit surprised to see Redden fighting. He is more of an Offensive Defenseman, not a Physical Defenseman.
