Poll on TSN

Postby Why So Serious? on Thu Sep 11, 2008 6:26 pm

www.tsn.ca/nhl

There is a poll for which player you would take first in a draft pool. Results will be shown on October 2nd. I don't know if it is all the names that were in the poll, but I saw, Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Lecavalier, Iginla, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Alfredsson.

I voted Malkin.

Haha, yes sir. I love me some Sidney Crosby. But I figured he is going to get enough votes from other people; had to show some love for Malkin. That, and the fact that I think he is going to be the best in the world in 1-2 years. Just my opinion.

Sorry, but I rank Alley O #1 for fantasy. Decent centers are much easier to get in later rounds.

Yes, but elite superstar centers are not available in later rounds.

I'd take AO first as well because you can count on him racking up goals. Malkin gets decent numbers of goals and assists. I'd rather take a huge goal guy first and make up the assists in the next couple rounds.

I prefer to have the most balanced players to begin the draft. Goals are worth just as much as penalty minutes in most leagues so I don't think that should be the main focus. If I find I need more goals later on I can always pick up someone with more goals than assists or vice-versa.

I voted Malkin because you get a pretty balanced selection with him. He has a good amount of goals, assists, points, powerplay points, and doesn't hurt you in the +, -. With Crosby you know your getting a lot of assists and a decent amount of goals and Ovechkin a lot of goals and a decent amount of assists. Malkin is the best all around player when it comes to the categories for fantasy.

Elite superstar anythings are not available in later rounds, so I'm not sure what your point is.

I was just playing on words. You said decent centers are easy to get in later rounds, but I said elite superstar centers are not. Elite superstar centers as in Malkin and Crosby. You can grab Ovechkin early, but you won't get anyone as good as 71 and 87 when you're looking for "decent centers.

I always took goalies early. They control as much as 25% of the categories, but are a small part of the team and top ones are hard to find in later rounds

My draft is saturday and I really am hoping to land Lecavalier. I think with all the new weapons on that team he has a serious chance to win the scoring title. I doubt AO will put up another 65 goals.

Me too, he's going for 75 this year.

My draft is Saturday, I'd like to get Nabokov early on.

My draft is also on Saturday. I wouldn't mind snagging Luongo early in the draft.

I'm a fan of landing a Malkin before an Ovechkin. With Ovechkin, you win goals and probably points far and away every week, but a Malkin gives you a realistic edge in assists, points, and goals. Depends on how your league scores, but if its category I'd rather have an all around player than a strict goal scorer. That said, Ovechkin can pull in +/- and occasional PIMs as well so he's no slouch, but given the choice I'm taking a Malkin.

And I always draft an elite netminder no later than the 2nd round so I'd give some consideration to voting for a Brodeur or a Nabokov on the poll.

I hate category fantasy games, but if I were doing that, Malkin would be my choice for sure.
