0% Chance, and thats not because of a dislike for Hossa, I just believe it's not possible now financial wise. The Pens have absolutely no cap room for someone else to command more then 6-7 Million per season. Jordan is going to get a good 3-4, then we need to plug in the holes for the next 5-6 with Sykoras/Fedotenkos around 1.5-2Million dollar contracts. So I mean to answer your question, I don't think it matters if the bridge is burned out or not with him and the Penguins, however his chance of signing with us is over.

I agree with Orpik, when he first signed I was very mad but given the past 2+ months it doesn't really bother me all that much. When you think about it he didn't go back on his word, he said he was willing to take less money to play for a cup contender not take less to stay in Pittsburgh. He clearly took less to play for a contender and I can live with that. I'd be much happier if more athletes took less money to play somewhere that was competitive rather than going to a dead end city only to earn a higher paycheck.

In the end the team as a whole can be just as good, sure the offense lost a lot of firepower but the defensive corps is much better by being able to bring back Orpik.

If <kittens> isn't a board feature, it should be.

Oh, and to stay vaguely on topic...in my wildest dreams, the Penguins find a star winger for Crosby out of their own prospect pool. Cheap, effective, and likely to be signed for many years.

Cue... Luca Caputi...brother is gonna be a beast. I'm gonna get his jersey immediately whenever he makes the team (probably next year).

Sure Brooks would say this; a man of action... he gets to physically express his feelings to Hossa.

i don't think hossa did anything unethical (that we know of - who knows if he led RS on). i have a lot of respect for his decision actually. but i still think it's ok to boo him (though i wouldn't).

I wouldn't boo Hossa because when the Pens beat the Wings in the cup this year, Hossa will see he made a mistake and sign a 7 year deal with Pittsburgh on July 1 :D Could happen...

Me? I don't see what is gained by it. I certainly won't ever boo someone who has done nothing to earn the boo.

Part of your duty as a fan is to boo players and get them off their game. That's one of the best parts of home-ice. Sure the arena is loud and cheering for your team builds confidence in them, but being hostile towards the opponent is great.

For example, Jagr in the playoffs. I don't normally boo him because I grew up watching him as a pen, but when he said that the boos bothered him during the playoffs, why wouldn't you boo?

I agree, being in the crowd and trying to get the other team off their game is what makes the fans the 6th man out there. If booing Jagr, Hatcher, A.O, Hossa etc. gets them to make one bad play then im all for it. I would also think it would get the team going. Its hard to imagine a guy like Ruutu or Orpik or Roberts wouldnt love hitting a guy who is getting boo'd and hearing the reaction of the crowd.

I don't think it is at this point, but the fans will burn it this season. There is no money for him anyway. Staal will be signed before the pens have a chance to negotiate with someone of his calibre and that will be the end of it.

Theres lies another question: Would you rather sign Staal to an extension or let him sign somewhere else and get compensation for him, and then have enough money to go after a guy like Gaborik?

Orpik sounds like a smart man.
Would love to see Hossa come back, but I don't know if he would want to take the abuse from the fans and the management might not want to offer him a deal.

LOL... c'mon Brooksie, we're fans. Of course we're gonna do dumb things.

It's funny to me just how nice the other players have been about that whole Hossa thing, but for them especially it is still a job, and a business at the end of the day. And as it goes players can always end up back on the same team.

I'd probably still boo him, but probably just this year. I know it would be dumb, but I don't go to hockey games to be smart and discuss Tolstoy. :D

No worries, I'm not going to any games and embarrass anyone anytime soon.

Early in July my thought was well maybe next year we will sign him. I REALLY liked Hossa's time here, i'll always remember his OT goal vs the Rangers, but i would say the bridge is burned I think he will go for the paycheck next year.

The reason there is no way Hossa signs with the Pens next offseason has nothing to do with burned bridges or booing fans but everything to do with the fact that there just isn't room for him financially.
