Training Camp - Day 3 Report.

Welcome to Pittsburgh, Miroslav Satan.

What a performance by this guy today, offensively, defensively, and in the neutral zone.

Darkhorse winners of the year, for me, are Danny Richmond and Ben Lovejoy. Those guys work great together, combined for three points today, and are taking a ton of chemistry back to WB/S camp next week.

Anyone has any questions, I'll answer as best I can.

That crosby shootout attempt was possibly the most entertaining part of the scrimmage for me. Also when talbot came out as an extra attacker I thought he scored for a second.

I'm so excited!
And I just can't hide it.
I'm about to lose control
And I think I like it!

Great reports jesse.

I have not been this excited for a camp in a long time. This team looks like its a lot more solid then it was last year, all around. I'm thoroughly happy with the lines. Staal should definitely be given a long look on Geno's line, but the only move I would think of making if Dupuis doesn't work on the first line, which i think he will, would be to switch him and feds. I think Pesonen will be a talent at the NHL level, just not right away.

I definitely think Fedetenko is the first choice to jump up to line one if they are gonna move Dupuis, because Dupuis fits well in that spot on the 3rd line as well. Finally seeing them live, Staal does look quicker, in every regard.

I called it reinvigorated. He has that 2nd line spot and doesn't plan on losing it any time soon.

Yeah he didn't look lazy, not that i'm saying he is or was lazy, but its hard to make it look like you are working when you have that kind of build. I didn't grab a roster sheet, so I was struggling with some of the new guys whose numbers I didn't know from up way up there, that kind of annoyed me.

WBS looks to be stacked this year. I think the weak link in the finals was lack of sound defense and the guys coming back look to have improved a lot.

Really, DP. They have. Engellend was the only one who had a rough camp, and even he was on par with them today. If Goose heads back, he'll lead a solid unit into battle in front of two goaltenders who will certainly be better this season. The Lovejoy/Richmond pairing will be a treat for the people that watch on a regular basis. Lots of chemistry there. A combined 3 points on the day.

I disagree, I predict 34 goals from Satan.

Jesse, I told you before, hero worship. These have been great this week, and I'm really ticked that I missed seeing the scrimmage online today. (pesky work got in the way). Thanks so much for taking the time to write these reports.

2007-2008 3rd line: Ruutu - Staal - Kennedy
2008 - 2009 3rd line: Fedo- Talbot - Cooke

This year's 3rd has three players closer in style an will be more poison ivy than anything else (irritating as all get-out to play against). Max isn't a playmaker, but he may get to finish more than a decent share of opps. Sub Dupuis or TK for Fedo and you have even more.

I just got back from TC.

I thought Staal looked like a beast. I wouldn't be surprised if he nets at least 30 goals this year. His backchecking looked great and will be a great addition to that line.

The least impressive person by far was Jonathan Filewich. He fell on his face a few times and barely had his legs moving. There were a couple of times where he screwed up the drills with his puckhandling and also the one time he went in the offensive zone with his head down and Gill blasted him.

Gill against Letang in the one skating drill was hilarious. Gill was grabbing on to Letang's jersey to slow him down when they went past the nets and then Gill passed Letang. On the subsequent turn around the next net, Letang wiped out. It was hilarious to see Gill stand there with his hands up like he won the Stanley Cup or something.

Sounds like the Staal-Malkin-Syko line is doing pretty well. Thoughts on them?
