376 Closed

Postby panthers1788 on Sat Sep 20, 2008 8:34 am

I am going to the game tonight and usually take 22 to 376 to get into Pittsburgh. Since 376 is closed what is the easiest and quickest way to go?

But he's going to the Pens game. Doesn't that make it Pens-related? Or does the board need a traffic sub-forum?

I'd take the turnpike the rest of the way to Harmarville then get off there and take Rte. 28 down into the city. You will get off the Liberty Bridge exit which actually takes you over the Veteran's bridge first. When you are on the Veteran's bridge be in the 2nd to right lane and you will come right out at the Double Tree which is one block from the arena. There will be signs.

I don't know how far out it is closed, but you could get off 22/376 at Route 8 (Penn Avenue) and follow that to Fifth - make a left on Fifth and follow to the arena. Lots of lights, but pretty much a straight shot. Mapquest is your friend.

You can get off at Churchill and catch Penn there. That's usually the way I go when I need avoid the Parkway to get to the Igloo. The turnpike/28 route is an option, and there are less lights, but both routes will probably get you there around the same time.

QFT

I don't always trust GPS systems (although I have one and use it). It's a wonderful tool -- I use it as a compliment to my directional skills.

FYI. Earlier in the year when inbound was closed, we sat in total gridlock way before you could even get to the Churchill exit on a Saturday afternoon.

Because outside of going on trips, its an incredible waste of money. If I stay in the Pittsburgh area, I don't need one. My question is, why do people waste money on things they don't need in today's world? crazy...

Just came down from a round trip to Johnstown, on our way back i knew about 376 being closed. It detours you off the Churchill ext and puts you back on after the squirel hill tunnel via Waterfront. I would recommmend taking the turnpike as stated above. Even trying to go through Penn Hills traffic is backed up. There is so much construction going on on the detour routes that its terrible.
