Pens HD Schedule

Postby Lumbergh on Thu Sep 25, 2008 11:15 pm

EDIT: I wiped out everything I wrote earlier (it's no longer relevant). I initially thought it would be good to post the schedule of all games that we'll get in HD. Instead, looks like it's easier to post the games that are NOT in HD. That's a good thing, but I hope it's not confusing. So, to make it clear...

The games listed below ARE NOT BEING BROADCAST IN HD on FSN Pittsburgh, Versus, or NBC. Some of these are in HD on the home team's stations, but most of us can't get that HD feed. If there is a game that is not listed below, it will be in HD on one of the aforementioned stations (hooray!). Again, the following list shows the only games that are NOT in HD in the Pittsburgh area...

updated 10/8/08
Penguins @ Blues 11/1/08
Penguins @ Islanders 11/8/08
Penguins @ Islanders 11/26/08
Penguins @ Sabres 11/28/08
Penguins @ Senators 12/6/08
Penguins @ Flyers 12/13/08
Penguins @ Lightning 4/7/09
Penguins @ Canadiens 4/11/09

I know FSN is trying to add a few more, so hopefully I'll get to delete a few more of these as the season progresses. Update (10/8/08): FSN just added 13 or 14 more games. There are now ONLY 8 GAMES THAT ARE NOT IN HD! That's fantastic! Thank you A&L Motor Sales!

It is, but FSN has exclusive rights to the Pittsburgh region. Versus has national rights to Sundays game.

I know Directv and Dish have Center Ice games in HD when available. I'm pretty sure Comcast does not.

What's great about Center Ice on Directv is that sometimes when FSN Pittsburgh doesn't have HD coverage, the other teams network might. I know that was the case for a few games last season. Sometimes this happens on road trips out west. In addition FSN Pittsburgh on Directv now has a full time HD channel, so even the standard definition content looks much better.

Looks like FSN will be carrying at least 49 games in HD according to this link, also a link to the HD schedule in that article. Every October game is in high def...nice way to start out the season for those of us who can't be at the Igloo.

I'm new to HD this season...

I have Comcast (In Baldwin, PA - South Hills) and watch stuff (ESPN, Discovery, Local Stations, etc) in HD when I can... I'm a little confused about how FSN HD works? I've read that I have to put on another channel which is replaced with the FSN HD feed? Is this correct? I've never seen any kind of FSN HD channel in my HD listings.

Please teach the noob.

THANKS!

Looks like Comcast's Center Ice will be showing some games in Hi-Def.

Turn on the Mojo channel when you see that the game on FSN is being broadcast in HD (226 I think). Even though the guide will not say hockey, the Pens game will be on, and be prepared to be amazed! Just be careful if you're trying to record the game in HD, you'll have to record whatever segments run through the times of the game.

I don't have HD, but I just sit very close to the television set and turn the volume up to ear-shattering levels.

Hockey Night in Canada will air each saturday on NHL Network in the US, so if you are outside of the Pittsburgh area you'll be able to get more games in HD as well.

I got an update from FSN who just added a bunch more games to their HD coverage. The list now shows only those games that are NOT scheduled to be in HD. As of right now, there are only 8 --- EIGHT --- games that are not scheduled for HD! Fantastic!

Seconded.

HD is still a new technology. In the next year or so, all games will be in HD, for pretty much any sport. It just takes time.
