How Bad Are We Going To Beat Jokerit?

Postby DocEmrick on Sat Sep 27, 2008 11:09 am

Any thoughts? Double-digits? I'm saying probably not a complete wash. What is the story behind this match-up? Was it the NHL who decided on it, or did their team offer to play us?

Back when I had NHL 06 for PS2, I got so bored beating teams 18 - 7 on the hardest difficulty, I started a league in the SM-Liga. I forget which team I was, but I remember seeing the Jokerit and thinking what the heck... Anyways, I'm sure it will be an interesting game.

I don't know how good they are, but when I saw their logo in the "next game" frame on the official site, I became a fan.

For a second, I thought the site had been hacked. Then I made the connection to Jokerit.

I wonder how much Crosby and Malkin will be playing in this game.

I am really wishing this game was on television, or on the "telly" as they say in Europe.

We haven't had our raging hysterical moment of panic yet this year. To get it over with early, I think a loss to Jokerit will hit the spot.

Glen Hanlon is their head coach. They went 2-6-1 in the preseason tournament.

I read a thread on HF awhile back that said Jokerit fans thought Crosby was a disgrace to the game and the Penguins should be worried about his safety from cheap shots in this match.

I had a hearty laugh out of it.

Kärpät (where Pesonen used to play) just beated Jokerit 6-0.

I guess the result against Penguins will depend on how both teams see that match. Is it just easy friendly or real hockey.

Edit: + Oh and by the way according to Finnish newspapers Jokerit boss Hjallis Harkimo sounds really optimistic about NHL starting their next season with regular season match(es) in Finland.

They'll play a normal amount.

The Pens agreed to play in Jokerit and put on a show for their fans. Not much of a show without those two.

Since its their last preseason game and not against another NHL team with players trying to prove themselves, they will likely basically play the team thats gonna play Ottawa.

I thought the Islander organization had finally embraced their reputation.

On a scale of win to win by a lot, the penguins will win handily.

According to my friend in Finland they are broadcasting it on local TV over there. He says he will try and record it for me. I'll pass it on if I can.

Will the game be played on a larger ice surface?

Will the games vs Ottawa be on NHL regulation sized rinks or Europe sized rinks?

I know that the Globe Arena has a European sized rink, but I'd be shocked if they didn't make it smaller for the Ottawa games.

I do, however, think that the Jokerit game will be on the large ice.

For the regular season games, they have to make it NHL size with NHL rules
