Rossi addresses Geno's English

Postby IrishEyes on Mon Sep 29, 2008 2:16 pm

This is actually something I enjoyed from Rob Rossi, even though the guy's a bit of a tool.

Malkin’s English has come a long way. I’ve told him so on three occasions over the past few weeks. But he remains camera shy, and a lot of that is the Pittsburgh media’s fault for not pressing Malkin to speak English more often. The Pittsburgh media – heck, the North American media – needs to not stay clear of Malkin because of his perceived language barrier. That sends the wrong message and provides him no incentive to provide our respective audiences with his thoughts.

I'll believe it when I see it, which will be right now.

well since i think rossi had never actually seen a hockey game before 2007, he should improve quickly now that he's watched at least 2 or 3 games.

Does anyone else here not particularly care that he do interviews, so long as he's able to communicate with coaches, teammates and refs?

I love watching post game scrums and such, so i'd like him to get to that point, but I don't really care as long as he continues to exude awesomeness on the ice.

Agreed. I love the post-game stuff, the interviews, the antics you can sometimes witness in the room. And personally, I'd love to hear Geno do more interviews. He's got this mystique surrounding him, which isn't always a bad thing. But those interviews connect you to your fans. Just ask the other guys. If only he'd get over his shyness.

Being sincere, at least to me, resonates the most. At the town hall meeting, Evgeni conveyed his thoughts and recieved a loud ovation. "HI People" Sid is not shy, but he's not out-going. And that is okay. Brooks speaks few words, but usually says something meaningful. Like us, pretty much hard-coded already with
personalities. good/bad/unusual. :)

Thanks so much for posting this article!!
I would like to hear more interviews from Geno. Mostly b/c we dont hear from him a lot, and like someone pointed out, there is a mystique surrounding him b/c he rarely speaks. :)

Geno's post-game interviews have been genius comedy when he does them. Unfortunately I think now that he's learning more English, that won't be the case as much.

I mean who could forget his classic quote: "Teammates play good, whole team great play, and me? (shrugs) play good.

I think my favorite Malkin quote was when he first got on the stage at the season ticket holder town hall meeting: "Hi people."

Some people are naturally more comfortable talking to the media (or just random people in general). Reguardless of being shy, speaking to the media is a skill that like anything gets easier the more you do it. If he does it regularly he will feel more and more comfortable and get better at it. His english will improve as well.

I'm not a super outgoing person and I started a job as a cocktail waitress a year ago. At first I would hide out in the wait station and feel extreamly awkward going up to tables and talking to people I don't know. The more I did it the easier it became and the better I got at it. Now it's practically second nature.

Geno basically needs to do the same. The pittsburgh fans love the guy and would like to hear more from him. he's frickin adorable.
