With Sid and Satan, or at least that's what it seems like.

I like it.

MT loves to use the word "Combination".

dupuis just went from official LGP whipping boy to LGP 3rd line god.

i think i like this decision. fedo has good hands around the net. that's pretty important in this role. and he's big and physical, which never hurts.

I have a great feeling Rusty Fedotenko is about to have a career year.

Dupuis-Talbot-Cooke will cause problems to opposing top lines. I see more than their fair share of odd-man breaks.

Considering how Dupuis and Talbot played together on the PK last year, seemingly very in sync with each other, I like this even more.

I thought from the beginning that Fedo was too good for 3rd line duty. He should do well as "Crosby's Malone".

MT won't settle on any line combinations until after the first month or two. He'll keep reaching in his magical hat until he pulls out a rabbit. One thing that I think is for sure is that we'll see Sykora on Geno's wing all season. Who's to say Staal won't end up on Sid's wing and Fedotenko plays with Geno/Sykora. That's the fun thing about MT, he's not afraid to try anything at least once. I wouldnt be overly surprised to see Geno on Sid's wing a few times if the offense struggles early.

I was high on what first seemed the new third line but giving Sid Fed instead of Dupuis sure is nice.

I've been hoping for this since I heard those two were signed when I was in Cali mid-summer. I'll be elated if this plays out. I've been saying for a while that if they switched Dupuis and Fedotenko on the proposed lines, that the first line would gain a lot and that the 3rd line really wouldn't.

Dupois looked great on the 3rd line with talbot and cooke as well... helped setup the game winner in toronto

Ottawa's lines during practice on Monday were as follows, according to sportsnet.ca:

Heatley - Spezza - Alfredsson
Vermette - Fisher - Winchester

Agreed, I think Dupuis - Talbot - Cooke is going to be a very effective third line and I think Fedotenko is a better fit with Satan and Sid.

If only we could come up with a bigger version of Talbot to play in between Godard and Bissonette on the 4th (Kyle Chipchura would be nice).

that could go either way, but if you move talbot, who centers the third and fourth line? does staal move back to center? that's my only concern

Absolutely not, and that's not a knock on Talbot, but he's much, much more valuable to the team as the 3rd line center at this point.

Edit: Hey, while we're on the subject on lines, according to the travel blog, coaching staff is considering moving Kennedy into the 4th line center role.

I like MT and don't mean this as bashing, but line combinations are pretty irrelevant IMO. MT will try a bunch of combinations until he finds some that work. When the team inevitably hits a scoring slump he will change things around again. His combinations can change from shift to shift. I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing, but it diminishes the significance of the changes.

Definitely not an unexpected change... maybe a little surprising that the change is made before the first game.

As for the Talbot question... no, I'm absolutely not disappointed he isn't getting time on the first line. He's a center and a big time 3rd liner. He's our Mike Fisher (best comparison I can come up with).

Draftnik... dead on. For the first 1/3 of the season, any line combos are basically irrelevant. I think they will be more stable this year b/c we have defined pairs with Malkin-Sykora and Crosby-Satan, unlike last year. Although, I guess those are just as subject to change if scoring becomes an issue.
