My thoughts on the European Trip

Postby cojac on Sun Oct 05, 2008 5:29 pm

First off, if the NHL is intent on opening their season on location, places like Winnipeg, Quebec City, or Las Vegas should be their target not Europe.

Good
-Kennedy was awesome
-Orpik picked up right where he left off
-Fedotenko is a solid 2 way player
-Love the 3rd line of Cooke-Talbot-Dupuis
-Godard went right after guys who took liberties unlike BGL (bad calls on his penalties)
-Biz Nasty didn't look out of place as a 4th line LW
Bad
-Did Satan Dress?
-Mike Yeo still coaches our PP
-Fleury was average
-We need a veteran Point man for the PP

He is a solid 3rd liner, he's miscast on the top line. He played 20 min today and really should play 13-15 min. We just have a huge hole on either side of Sid, unless Satan picks up his play which I think he will and TK continues the way he's playing. Staal-Malkin-Sykora will be fine, 3rd line is very solid, 4th line will be fine and will serve their purpose.

Once you go European, you never go back.

Make that a big sign, and put it in the locker room.

What is wrong with Mike Yeo? Yea the pp was bad in the last 2 games, but didnt they say that our PP has been in the top 6 the last 3 years....quit bandwagon bashing and give the guy a break.

Being a fan for the last 23 years, I'm not a jumping on or jumping off the bandwagon junior. Those 5 on 3's in the Cup finals we blew made me not like Yeo for good. Give me a break

The power play issues have a lot more to do with no whitney/gonchar than they do with mike yeo. its outrageous to blame a coach in this situation.

While Mike Yeo has partial blame in the PP woes, Yeo can't go out there with a hockey stick and shoot the puck. The players on the ice are responsible for shooting the puck. I just don't understand why the Pens don't understand that they can only score if they shoot the damn puck. You can't so cute with the puck especially when the Senators PK was playing as physical as they were.

Even more so when the ice is bad and the puck is bouncing all over the place.

I'm just glad the Pens leave Sweden with 2 points considering how terrible the team was on the man advantage.

I guess I'll be the Pollyanna and say I think they will adjust and things will get better. At least they aren't coming home 0-2. :?

First, who are you calling junior when you are 28 years old. Second, I didnt call you a bandwagon fan i called you a bandwagon basher when it comes to Yeo. Anyone complaining about a PP coach when the PP has been in the top 6 in the NHL since he has been there needs a reality check.

I know everyone's mad about the Pens' loss, but we don't need to be getting into each other over it. This place is better than that, or at least, it used to be.

Agreed. Usually I'm all for passing around, trying to create open lanes, good opportunities, etc. and telling off all of the "shoot!" people. But there a couple times today that they had complete open looks on net, and instead didn't shoot it and coughed it up with a pass.

I second this.

It was neat being a part of it, but I hope they don't have to go for another few years.

This.

The PP has been one of our strenghts. We lost two key people on the PP. Horrible ice.

People focus too much on rare bad stretches than the overall picture.

I'm glad the Pens have a break in the schedule in order to recoup from the jet lag and get some more practice in, but it is going to suck to have to wait a week until the next Pens game.

And I'll third this. It seemed like the people at the game didn't care. I know there were fans of each team there but very little emotion, they spend all this money yet don't put a regulation ice surface, boards, or glass in, and the ice was horrible.

Glad all of our Swedish fans could get to the game, but please don't send the Pens back there ever again!!

:D  I won't continue this out of respect to net, I'll just say a team with the talent we have should be in the top 5 on PP.

Agreed....That was 2 of the most sloppy and boring games I've seen in a while. No offensive flow...Horrible power play...They will miss Gonchar immensely...

Noticed MT took Satan off Crosby's line...Malkin/Staal/Satan is actually a very good line...Crosby/Fedotenko/Sykora? maybe worth a look next game...

Memo to the NHL...The pens already had a shortened off season because of their long post season...Let a team that doesn't make it to the finals go over seas next year...

Hated this experiment..
